Moscow - The Somali embassy in Moscow on Tuesday confirmed the death of 10 pirates released at sea last week by Russian forces off the coast of the Horn of Africa country.
Earlier, an official from Russia's Defence Ministry told journalists that the men were presumed dead since their boat had not reached the shore.
Russian forces had captured the pirates last week in an operation to rescue the tanker Moskovsky Universitet, which was hijacked in the Gulf of Aden.
But the pirates were released on Friday and put in one of their own boats, without weapons or navigation equipment, 300 nautical miles off the coast of Somalia, after Russia said there were no international guidelines for prosecuting the men.
Wow this sucks big time!!!!!!!
Uh... I think we all got that.
But...but...aren’t the Russians worried about their “standing in the world”? snicker
Somalia has an embassy?
That because the Russians didn't punch any of the pirates in the mouth and draw blood, or turn up the A/C before they were put out to sea. Those are the things that cause problems.
you are right, it says 10 pirates....he’s number 11
The article said 10 pirates. The picture has 11.
Cookie, polonium sandwiches for all the pirates!
Well, at least one on the photo is beaten or shot to death.
Note three armed marines there.
Go russkies! I’ll bet all the other Somali pirates will never forget what a russkie flag looks like now.
OH NOEZ! The pirates had their Geneva Convention rights violated! Quick someone call the UN or the ICRC! :)
I know. You didn’t see the pirates being Mirandized and flown to NY City in style to be coddled, er.....tried.
There are some things for which the Russians have a real tallent and which we should consider emulating.
Libs always cling to the “capital punishment does not deter crime” crap. Newsflash, morons: these ten guys will never, ever board another ship without a ticket. I’d say they’re effectively “deterred”. Rest in peace, maggots!
......Hard to row 300 miles with no water......
Hard to row 300 miles with no oars and a leaking boat
Its actually a little early to “presume” all are dead. If the boat had water - its only been 4 or five days ... maybe the boat was leaking a little? I trust the Ruskies gave each pirate a spoon to bail with ... ;-)
Excellent.
He’s not dead, he’s just pining for the fjords.
In fact it is of American origin. Called Chicago style. Like Little Tony is fond in a river with hands tied stabbed eleven times and shot six times in a back. None seen he is killed, folks heard he was under depression....So it is a suicide!
So does Russian marines. We haven’t killed them. We have released them. We took their weapons, GPS and motors for good, so they can’t do any more evil things. Why was it 300 miles off-shore? We got them there, why the hell do we have to get them elsewhere? And as for that hole in their inflatable, none seen it was we who did it!
No one really thought they would be released after attacking s Russian tanker, did they?
I would bet the Russians made “sure” they died slowly and horribly of exposure.
I would also bet Russian wessels are now safe in Somali waters.
