NJ.com is reporting Gov. Chris Christie is proposing a package of legislation Monday that would place a permanent 2.5 percent limit on annual raises for public workers.
Affecting police, firefighters and teachers, the proposal would allow towns to discard civil service rules governing employee hiring and firing, the report said.
Further, the 33-bill package would direct administration officials to study raising the retirement age, reviewing contributions to health benefits and pensions, and keeping new hires out of the pension system, the report said.

New Jersey voters are notoriously fickle. The Dems have a congential majority. The cops and teachers are out to get him, and as soon as the average resident finds out some of the cost cutting steps ate inconveniencing him or her, they will turn on the guy who is just trying to clean up the mess others have started.
Remember, ONE of the reasons Christie won was because of the Norcross/Corzine versus Lesniak/Codey feud. The northern New Jersey Dems didn't drag out their customary voters and bogus votes because they were ticked off at Norcross and Corzine.

That’s news to me and I know something about NJ Civil Service rules.
Actually, if you accrute sick leave for your entire career, or even PART of it and are promoted, or get raises, the hourly rate of the sick leave you accrued years ago was lower than your present hourly rate, but the sick leave pay out is based on present salary.
That needs fixing also.

I am on Soc Sec- and we have been frozen at 2009 amounts for all of 2010 & also all of 2011.
Somehow, NObama has a crystal ball that says there will be NO Cost of Living reasons to bump us up for these 2 years.
Wish he had looked into my bank check register first-
House insurance has gone up substantially. Gas is up almost a dollar a gallon. Food is higher. Vehicle registration fees have gone up-33 1/3 % in one case.
Local park fees went up 75% for day use & 40% for overnight use. No improvements to most of these parks- and many of them don’t even have water. You must bring your own.

Sure would be informative for this Governor to send people down to Maricopa County in Arizona and learn a few tricks from Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Joe knows hoe to run a jail situation on minimum money.

If I understand you correctly- it is also a CAP- not a guarantee. IOW- they could .4% in a tough year—or even 0% increase.
Never watched the show. It’s taken me 3 years to get to this point. 50 lbs. a year or roughly a pound a week. Along with admitting my problem with alcohol, a new mindset and returning to church has helped me immensely. It truly has to be a change of lifestyle. There’s no such thing as a successful “diet.”
Yes, the accrued sick-pay is paid out at the rate at the time of a person retiring, despite what the earnings were when it was accrued. The formula I spoke of applies to San Francisco, and averages about 2/3rds payout of hourly rate. But with a max cap on what can be carried over each year, and the reduced payout, the employee generally is giving away time without compensation.
