U.S. and other big powers back Mideast nuclear arms ban (Obama to force Israel to disarm)
Reuters ^ | May 9, 2010 | Reuters

The United States, Russia, Britain, France and China voiced support on Wednesday for making the Middle East a nuclear-weapons-free zone, which would ultimately force Israel to scrap any atomic arms it has.

The move, in a joint statement, reflected U.S. concern to win Arab backing for sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program by offering a concession over its ally Israel, but Washington says the zone cannot be actually established yet.

"We are committed to a full implementation of the 1995 NPT resolution on the Middle East and we support all ongoing efforts to this end," the five permanent U.N. Security Council members said in a statement issued at a conference taking stock of the 1970 nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

The 1995 resolution adopted by signatories of the landmark arms control treaty called for making the Middle East a zone without nuclear arms. The Jewish state has never confirmed or denied having nuclear arms.

"We are ready to consider all relevant proposals in the course of the (NPT) Review Conference in order to come to an agreed decision aimed at taking concrete steps in this direction," said the statement, which was obtained by Reuters.

U.S. support for the idea of creating such a zone in the future could be unwelcome to Israel, which has said it can only consider it once there is Middle East peace.

I’m waiting to see if he signs a seven-year peace treaty guaranteeing protection of Israel by US. Then the clock starts ticking.

They are all ganging up on Israel, now that the US joined the anti-Israel gang:

Nuclear watchdog shows signs it may scrutinise Israel

http://www.thenational.ae/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20100509/FOREIGN/705089883/1002

“A report saying that “Israeli nuclear capabilities” have been listed as the eighth item on the provisional agenda for the June 7 board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency would mean the UN nuclear watchdog would be taking an unprecedented step in its nearly 53-year history.

But putting Israel on the agenda alongside Iran could take some of the heat off Tehran just as the West is lobbying hard for tough new UN sanctions against it.

The inclusion was made at the request of Arab states. It could still be removed from the agenda if the US and other allies of Israel voice strong opposition, the Associated Press reported on Friday, quoting an unnamed senior diplomat from a board member nation.”

They admitted to an arsenal of approximately 200 warheads when the Oslo Accords were negotiated in 1998. Several military think tanks have assessed them to be adding 25 to 35 warheads per year since.

That yields a range of 200 if they actually added none to a high end of 620.

My guess is around 500 with perhaps a fifth of those being tiny bunker busters.

by international law, israel is not permitted to have weapons of mass destruction. No nation other than the original UN members with veto power can have weapons of mass destruction.

More on info in addition to that in my post 26:

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hN1gG2FKiM6vZJsY_qF2lYN2R7qQD9FI8FPG0

“Even if dropped from the final agenda, however, its inclusion in the May 7 draft made available to The AP is significant, reflecting the success of Islamic nations in giving concerns about Israel’s unacknowledged nuclear arsenal increased prominence.

A decision to keep the item would be a slap in the face not only for Israel but also for Washington and its Western allies, which support the Jewish state and view Iran as the greatest nuclear threat to the Middle East.”

The last paragraph should be in PAST TENSE — US “supported” Israel, obviously not any more, under the Obama administration.

Israel will not disarm. They’ll tell Obambi to stuff it. What the heck is Obama going to do about it? Attack Israel?

I expect the Israelis will be watching our 2010 elections with more than usual interest for a mid-term period. If things go as expected (and even if not), they should ignore Obama and wait until the American electorate corrects the huge mistakes of 2008.

And as has been said before, we need to hear more and louder voices from Congress concerning Zero’s treatment of Israel.

They will vote for any democrat that they believe shares their socialist ideology, they will vote for any republican that they believe shares their socialist ideology.

Why do so many make the mistake of thinking that the so called “American Jews” who vote for socialists are loyal to anything other than their ideology?

Socialists vote for socialists. The nation of Isreal is not a factor.

So we now see the real hand of Obama. Disarm Israel while Obama, the UN, or anyone else can’t even see, let alone talk, to Iran or any other country about their nuke programs. I can see it now, tons of UN inspectors roaming the Israeli countryside denouncing Israel, while the UN sends it’s 15,000th letter to Iran telling them that they really mean it now!

One thing is for sure,Mecca and Medina will be a not so fond memory.Tehran and Istanbul will get smoked too.

Not so certain that a couple aren't aimed in a different direction. A country must defend itself against all enemies!
