Gore buys Montecito Villa for $8,875,000

In a move that critics may cite as his own inconvenient truth, former Vice President Al Gore and his wife, Tipper, have added a house in secluded Montecito to their real estate holdings.

The couple spent $8,875,000 on a gated ocean-view villa on 1 1/2 acres with a swimming pool, spa and fountains, according to real estate sources familiar with the deal. The Italian-style house has high ceilings with beams in the public rooms, a family room, a wine cellar, terraces, six fireplaces, five bedrooms and nine bathrooms in more than 6,500 square feet of living space.

Montecito has long been a haven for Southern California's rich and famous, a spot where celebrity faces can blend into the crowd. Among the community's notable residents have been talk show giant Oprah Winfrey, actors Michael Douglas and Christopher Lloyd, and golfer Fred Couples. The 93108 ZIP Code, which includes the coastal hamlet, was ranked as America's seventh most expensive area last year by Forbes.

Word of the purchase was reported in late April in the Montecito Journal. Gore, 62, did not respond to The Times' requests for comment.

Three years ago, Gore added solar panels and other energy-saving features to his 10,000-square-foot mansion in Belle Meade, Tenn., after he had been criticized for the amount of energy the home used.

After serving as vice president from 1993 to 2001 and playing spokesman on global warming in his 2006 Academy Award-winning film "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore is now chairman of Current TV. He also is the founder and chairman of the Alliance for Climate Protection and a founder of the Beverly Hills-based environmental organization Live Earth.

After serving as Clinton's vice president from 1993 to 2001 and losing the presidency (that Gore said was caused by Clinton getting lewinskied in the Wh) ........Gore is playing spokesman on global warming in his 2006 Academy Award-winning film "An Inconvenient Truth," Gore is now chairman of Current TV. He also is the founder and chairman of the Alliance for Climate Protection and a founder of the Beverly Hills-based environmental organization Live Earth.

Spotlight on Gore ‘s Dual Role As an Advocate and Investor
New York Times, Nov 3, 2009, By JOHN M. BRODER

Abstract: Al Gore finds himself in position of having to defend decision to invest, through his venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, in Silver Spring Networks, which produces hardware and software to make electricity grid more efficient.

Gore and his partners invested $75 million in Silver Spring, which wanted to expand its partnerships with utilities seeking to install millions of smart meters in home and businesses; deal appears to have paid off now that Energy Dept has announced $3.4 billion in smart grid grants, with $560 million going to Silver Spring.

Gore and his partners could reap great returns from investment and he is defending that investment against critics who say he stood to benefit personally from energy and climate policies he urged Congress to adopt. Gore contends his investment activities are consistent with his public advocacy. (snip)

Gore is a founder of Generation Investment Management, based in London and run by David Blood, a former head of Goldman Sachs Asset Management (the firm was quickly dubbed Blood and Gore).

Mr. Gore earns a partner’s salary at Kleiner Perkins. He has substantial personal finances invested at both firms, officials of the companies said. He also serves as an adviser to high-profile technology companies including Apple and Google, relationships that have paid him handsome dividends over the last eight years.

Mr. Gore‘s spokeswoman would not give a figure for his current net worth, but the scale of his wealth is evident in a single investment of $35 million in Capricorn Investment Group, a private equity fund started by his friend Jeffrey Skoll, the first president of eBay. Ion Yadigaroglu, a co-founder of Capricorn, said that Mr. Gore does not sit on the fund’s investment committee, but obviously agrees with the partners’ strategy of putting long-term money into promising ventures in energy, technology and health care around the globe.

“Aspirationally,” said Mr. Yadigaroglu, who holds a doctorate from Stanford in astrophysics, “we’re trying to make more money than others doing the same thing and do it in a way that is superior in ethics and impacts.”

Mr. Gore has said he invested in partnerships and funds that try to identify and support companies that are advancing cutting-edge green technologies and are paving the way toward a low-carbon economy.

He has a stake in the world’s pre-eminent carbon credit trading market and in an array of companies in bio-fuels, sustainable fish farming, electric vehicles and solar power.

Capricorn holds a major stake in Falcon Waterfree Technologies, the world’s leading maker of waterless urinals. Generation has holdings in Ausra, a solar energy company based in California, and Camco, a British firm that develops carbon dioxide emissions reduction projects.

Kleiner Perkins has a green ventures fund with nearly $1 billion invested in renewable energy and efficiency concerns.

Mr. Gore also has substantial interests in technology, media and biotechnology ventures that have no direct tie to his environmental advocacy, an aide said. (snip).

True...the fact you are a moron has already been clearly established.

This is NOT Al Gore’s house. I can tell you for certain. Just be sure we get the facts right as much as possible.

Good. Now, please, just do me a small favor, dimwit, if you figure out how to mail them back tell them to ignore me. Then take your own advice. You have gone from boor to bore and while the former can be fun, the latter is just...a bore. Say Hi to all your DUmmie friends at the next “meet up” and laugh about the way you told us all that ALGORE deserves everything he’s got, from chiseling chumps like you.

One more thought for you...Montecito is a very wealthy town they could easily take you in...perhaps subsidize a job for you applying the loofah to ALGORE’S stretch marks while he bathes in his (necessarily large) Olympic sized bathtub...then the village can have TWO idiots.

I was just up there a few weeks ago. Very high up a narrow gravel road with a stunning vista of the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Ynez Valley. It was surreal to walk in the Gipper’s humble home; many of their personal items are still as they were way back when...

After leaving office, President Reagan had the helo pad removed. He wanted the land returned to its natural beauty. And beautiful it was... spring flowers blooming amongst the meadow grass.

Al Gory is a polluting piece of shyster living off the back of the gullible.

Everyone from Michelle Malkin to Newsbusters has indicated it was the house. However, as I posted later on in the thread, I'm not so sure now. But if you know for a fact it isn't, why didn't YOU post a link to the real one, assuming of course the one I posted isn't.

Newsbusters and many other prominent websites have the same house that I posted pictures of. Again, if you know for a fact it isn't, post a photo and/or link of/to the correct one.

Looks like it WAS the correct house that I posted in #33 four days ago (May 8th). O'Reilly just had a Dennis Miller segment on it tonight (May 12th). Miller apparently lives in the neighborhood. The pictures Fox showed were the same in my post.

Hi, sorry, I do not know what house the Gore’s purchased, I only know that the house in the photos is not the house. The address of the house in the photos is 1284 Mesa Road, Santa Barbara.

If you are speaking about me, yes I am a new person here but I truly want to contribute to the conversation if you will allow me to. Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification. I had no idea you actually knew the people who lived in the house that Al Gore supposedly bought (the apparently incorrect one I posted pics of).

If I were you, I’d notify Bill O’Reilly, and possibly the websites I linked to upthread which had these wrong photos, to inform them of the error. O’Reilly will almost certainly make an on-air correction. If Al Gore and the liberal-left media weren’t so damn secretive about which house he bought (for 9 mill), this wouldn’t have happened.

Thanks again, and welcome to FR!
