DeVore’s Abortion Critique of Fiorina Without Merit (2009 Article)
RedState.com ^ | August 25th, 2009 | James Richardson

Posted on 05/07/2010 6:04:21 PM PDT by Josh Painter

Chuck DeVore has gone to great lengths to portray his primary election opponent Carly Fiorina as too liberal, particularly on the issue of abortion, but some California political observers now say the cash-strapped DeVore campaign is playing fast and loose with the facts.

[...]

Despite DeVore’s protestations, Fiorina settled on the contentious issue of abortion years ago. And contrary to the campaign’s constant refrain, she proudly calls herself a “pro-life, conservative, and life-long Republican.”

[...]

But for whatever reason, Fiorina’s verifiable pro-life record is not enough for DeVore.

“If DeVore doesn’t make it to the general election, he’ll be sure to bloody up Fiorina on her way,” said one Republican activist with ties to the DeVore campaign, speaking only on the condition of anonymity.

“They don’t have a statewide donor network and, as a result, they’ve raised only a couple hundred thousand dollars. They’re running against a three-term United States Senator, but their campaign is barely equipped to stage a successful state Senate bid.” Putting it bluntly, the activist added, “Chuck is a good man, but he is not a viable candidate.”

Political strategists consider any incumbent polling below 50% as potentially vulnerable, but money is the final arbiter in California statewide elections – and money is just what DeVore does not have. What DeVore lacks in campaign funds, he makes up for in doggedness, to be sure. Doggedness, however, won’t saturate television and radio with the ad buys necessary for electoral success; this requires millions of dollars.

DeVore has only raised a meager $337,000 in the eleven months he’s been running to unseat Boxer, according to his campaign’s July FEC filings. But with a fairly loose grip on the campaign’s purse strings, the campaign has burned through $302,000 and found itself $106,000 in debt.

Folks, think about this for a minute. The Tea Party movement is in full swing and people are upset at Washington.

So how come DeVore was not able to tap into this energy?

This is an old article and DeVore has raised a significant amount of money and is not in debt. Carly speaks best when she says the immigration debate has a “racist tone”. Latest general election polls show her actually running behind Devore with all the candidates within the margin of error when running head to head against boxer. Carly may be prolife I’ll take her word for it but the underhanded comments about Chucks campaign aren’t true and are old news.

she says the immigration debate has a “racist tone”.

"There has been a very unfortunate racist tone that has emerged in a lot of the discussion about immigration and that's inexcusable.
~Carly Fiorina

With sentiments like that she could land a job at MSNBC.

You guys play so many games, this is the primary, not the general, and Devore did so poorly that he never even got into the race.

Even that poll you site for the general has a 1 point difference between her and Devore against Boxer.

“So how come DeVore was not able to tap into this energy?”

Most conservatives of the Tea Party variety are not wealthy people; they are not used to making political contributions. They give of their time and energy and probably in ways beyond politics in their communities.

Notice a pattern of late here.. as the primary approaches? conservative candidate bad, rino good..

What I see is letting the pro-abortion, anti-gun, progay marriage, Tom Campbell waltz into victory, or stopping him with Fiorina.

>””Campbell was the first to answer a question about whether individuals on the no-fly list should be permitted to purchase a gun. He said they should not, but both Fiorina and DeVore disagreed.

“Oh my goodness,” Campbell said after the other two candidates answered.

“That’s why Tom Campbell has kind of a poor rating from the National Rifle Assn., right there,” Fiorina interjected.

“I can’t believe what I’m hearing,” Campbell said. “Wait until you’re off the no-fly list then exercise your 2nd Amendment rights. That is not an infringement on anyone’s 2nd Amendment rights, and it seems somewhat unusual to take that position, except perhaps in a Republican primary.”

Fiorina said she knew people who had been on the no-fly list and that the list has been “way too large.”<

Actually tea party people supported Fiorina over Devore.

Games? In a state like California, any of the 3 candidates could beat Boxer with party support and without all the bickering that has started here of late, the problem is, 2 of the 3 candidates, while “electable” , stink to high heaven.

The Primary is June 8th.. That’s the only ‘game’ that matter. We’ll see who’s left standing and go from there..

Now we know why Sarah went with Carly.

This is the reason that Palin went with Fiorina.

Only one candidate can stop Tom Campbell.

The only question here is can Fiorina beat Tom Campbell.

Trying to use a meaningless poll about a future hypothetical election to try and convince people that Devore is involved in the remainder of this primary (other than as spoiler), is a child’s game.

Devore will be faced with dropping out, or becoming a stalking horse for the radically left wing, Tom Campbell.

The fallacy of Pro-Life Endorsements of Carly Fiorina...

...in a conversation to with the San Francisco Chronicle editorial board, Fiorina affirmed that she was personally pro-life, but reiterated her support for Sotomayor, saying, “I do not believe where a potential judicial nominee stands on that issue [of abortion rights] is a qualifier or an unqualifier.”

(snip)

She then went on to characterize the entire American pro-life movement as essentially a waste of time, saying: “[M]any, many voters are going to conclude while that is a very important issue, it is frankly a decided issue. The law is clear in the state of California, where there is a constitutional guarantee to the right to an abortion. So why are we talking about a theoretical issue?”

Nope. All that money and Carly "Meg Whitman Jr." Fiorina trails Campbell thus far and is sinking fast. Absentee ballots come out next week and all three of these candidates will be on it. DeVore is in it to win it. Carly should drop out and back Chuck.

You need to look at post 12, Fiorina is not dropping fast, she is the only one within striking distance of Campbell.

I hope Devore does not pull a Scozzfava, and throw the race to Campbell or Boxer.

Carly = Scozzfava
DeVore = Principles

Of course principles don’t matter to a lot of folk around here. You get what you deserve by supporting Whitman Junior.

“Sen. Feinstein has been a fine senator for the state of California, and has accomplished a great deal. I would describe her as a pragmatic problem-solver,” Fiorina told Chronicle reporters and editors during an interview with the newspaper’s editorial board. “I admire her, I respect her. I like her. I think and I hope she would say the same about me.”

Carly Fiorina praises Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow Coalition:

Fiorina draws ire of right with praise for Rev. Jesse Jackson, push for more women in politics

“In the past 40 years, there are very few people who have used their talent ... to achieve more things for more people in more places than Reverend Jackson,” she said in a 2003 speech posted on HP’s Web site. “And we are all better off for his leadership.”
