Andrew Breitbart: 'The Left is, in Essence, the Media'

By Kathleen Gilbert

LOS ANGELES, California, May 7, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The bias of the liberal media is so deeply ingrained that it is an essential part of its structure - one that conservatives must fight hard to challenge effectively, according to conservative new media guru Andrew Brietbart.

"The left, to me, in essence, is the media," said Breitbart an interview with CBN's Matt Brody.

Big liberal names like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, he explained, "possess limited charms." "Their ability to get what they need to get done is because they're carrying the water of the media," said Breitbart. "The media is a left-of-center ecosystem, it's a left-of-center organism. So the media can change the dynamics of what we're talking about."

Known for attacking liberal media bias head-on, Breitbart is a political commentator who owns his own news web site, Breitbart.com, as well as the blogs Big Hollywood, Big Government and Big Journalism. He also serves as an editor for the Drudge Report.

“I aim everything at attacking the media for its biases and holding them accountable for their biases, and the things that they report incorrectly, or the things they fail to report,” he said.

“By aiming everything at the media I’ve pretty much done the one thing they ask you not to do. ‘Please accept the premise that we’re fair, and let’s move on.’ No. I’m not going to accept that premise.

“For these people to tell me with a straight face that they don’t come to the media and their jobs from a political perspective, from a left-of-center perspective, is just a bald-faced lie.”

When facing mistreatment by the media, Breitbart urged conservatives not to play by the rules as defined by the mainstream media. "These people don't fight fair," he said. "The left does not fight fair, and so I'm basically saying to conservatives, you don't have to fight fair.”

“I want to break down this politically correct paradigm. These are rules that tell conservatives: you're not allowed to say this, you're not allowed to think that. This type of Orwellian thought crime crap is what I'm fighting against."

While not strongly religious himself, said Breitbart, the attack on Christians perpetrated by the mainstream media "angers me to no end." "I consider myself to be a Judeo-Christian. ... I relate to the world view that America has," he said. "It's a distinctly Judeo-Christian one and I think that it works."

But Christians, he said, will only exacerbate the problem if they continue to react passively to media slander. "Christian turn-the-cheek tactics do not work agianst this crowd," he said.

Breitbart said he hoped his battle against the liberal media could become "an international movement," and likened the battle to the previous century's battle against Communism.

"This is the same battle that Ronald Reagan and many millions of other people fought in the 20th century, it just has a 21st century new media battleground," he said. "The Cold War is now a new media war."

"if some bold Conservative could get control of, say, CBS"

No. The NYT!

I’ll ask this again, but why wouldn’t someone like Breitbart, instead of battling the existing media, create a national alternative:

The Free Republic channel sounds promising....

“Very true, but the media will fall with the Democrats this November. I have never seen an industry actually go out to destroy themselves like the media is. You would think that the employees of the media would see that they are destroying their own jobs in the future.”

Over the last 15 years, they have very deliberately traded credibility for political power. It reelected Clinton, kept him from being cast out of office with the impeachment, did considerable damage to our war efforts and managed to elect the current administration. Each one of these efforts cost the MSM credibility, and each one gained the left some political power, at least for a time. The election of the current administration has been a “hail Mary” type effort. They see they have been gradually losing, and that this is their last best chance to impose a socialist style government on the American people. It may yet succeed.

We need to continue to create our own media. The leftover hasbeens of the MSM are dying and may present an opportunity at some point, but the freerepublic/talk radio path has been reasonably successful.

I'd like to know who writes their lines...Now that would be interesting...

I often wondered that. One theory is that they do not need to write the lines necessarily. The con men in the media newsrooms have been doing their slant for so long, they get the signal intuitively by just receiving the message. I watched this phenomenon with Bill Clinton and company. He would say something as president and be parroted.

I do wish that the editors and their assistants would be blinded by a spotlight of transparency. The bahstids fire their salvos with impunity. They are faceless and nameless. Acorrding to Alinsky, you cannot attack this effectively because CBS/ABC/NBC etc. are nebulous clouds. The "attack" has to be personal; that is, it has to have a name and a face.

“I’ve been saying that were I to get a financial windfall, I’d set up a scholarship system for (bonafide) conservative J-school students.”

A great many conservative bequests have been taken over and put to liberal uses. It is very hard to control the money once it leaves your hands.

Interesting that as the MSM is becoming quite open about their bias and lapdog status with the White House, their viewership is plunging. The only way the MSM will survive is for the government to hobble freedom of speech. Unfortunately the Obama regime is happy to oblige.

That needs to be qualified:

Nah, Breitbart is correct. Turn-the-ceek is not for the MSM Left. As it was not for the communists during the Cold War and is not for the Islamist Caliphate seeking Jihadists. The MSM Left must be utterly defeated.

‘Journalists’ have become entertainers and entertainers like to think that they are ‘journalists’.

Most Americans cannot distinguish and don’t even see a conflict of interest in any of that.

The whole idea of ‘responsibility’ and ‘intellectual integrity’ has become a moot point.

Something like a ‘counter’ Hollywood ought to produce films or ‘entertainment’ which is more balanced in its representation of the facts. Film, with our already compromised young people, is an inordinately dramatic and powerful tool with them.. we know it works, right?

Frankly I think about 3/4's of time...they all get daily faxes from some "clearing central"....

We know...that Emmanuel has daily conversations with members of people on the his "staff"....aka the media.

marktwain replies:
I wish it were so simple, but our side uses the same paradigm, we just do not have the media presence in the dominant media forms. Rush Limbaugh is a superb entertainer, but you do not see the entertainer/journalists in the MSM that do not tow the “Progressive” line.

Over the last 15 years, they have very deliberately ...

15 years? I must be a lot older than you. The liberal media narrative has been going on since the 1960's, and probably the 40's (think Walter Durant and Pulitzer Prize) . There were a few moderately conservative outlets such as the Chicago Tribune, but that didn't last long.

"If the Liberal media could be effectively neutralized, closed down, etc. The Dem party would be truly a minority party."

I don't know about that. The democrat party is essentially the populist party. At one time it was the in thing to do were too attack blacks and republicans they made the KKK and from behind the lines back them up. Today the thing to do is pity the blacks and attack the republicans. Blacks seem to love too be patronized and it shows in votes.

In order to have an effective populist party you need to create a demon to point your figure at.
The conservatives make a good demon because we are not really threatening like Islam and other real threats.

Newsweak’s for sale; maybe Rush can consider buying it since he saved all the money not buying an NFL team. Turn it over to Breitbart, let him staff it and publish it from a Conservative perspective.

“at least Rush admits who he is.”

Exactly so. Much of the power of the left is their ability to deceive, especially to deceive themselves.
