and I'll bet the kids wearing the hammer and sickle shirts would be allowed to stay in school with their shirts unlike the kids wearing their American flag apparel.

There is an exchange student program. If there is an exchange administrator program, may I suggest that Miguel Rodriguez spend a year as an exchange Assistant Principle in, say, North Korea?

It shouldn't be an emotionally charged topic. This is America...and the holiday is a "marketing" gimic. It shouldn't be celebrated in school.
My folks were Ukranian. We had and still have our Festivals every year with traditional food, dance etc....
What we don't do is FORCE others to be observe our festivals.
The school got it wrong by having such a day in the first place.

If Hispanics representing only 13 percent of US population are this demanding and willing to use violence to back their demands, what will they be like if they are 25 percent of US population?? Maybe it is time to look at our immigration quotas and adjust them.

I have no problem celebrating Cynic de Mayo.
I have a real problem punishing American kids for being patriotic.

If we celebrated every country’s victory over the French the year would be one big party.

How about we include Roger Ebert in a massive illegal/scumbag/diseased/criminal alien roundup, and force them all across the border? At the tip of a bayonet, if necessary.

Roger Ebert masterfully illustrates why he is a movie critic and not in charge of running anything.

I'm tired of being told "This is your new best friend"....a black, a lesbian, a Mexican, a Muslim...
I'm white...most of my friends are white and that's the way it is....but I'm never disrespectful to anyone.
Society is like that...always has been, always will be...diverse is not necessarily a good thing.

Cinco de Mayo and St. Patricks Day are beer holidays in the U.S. Well, at least America hasn't distorted the true meaning of Oktoberfest.

One of the students, Daniel Galli, said school officials told him they could wear their patriotic garb any other day, but "but today is sensitive to Mexican Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday so we were not allowed to wear it today." So, these Mexican-Americans aren't Americans themselves with pride in this country? So much for the melting pot and an example of why multiculturalism is destructive.
Liberals for years have touted the idea of many separate cultures within one culture in order to gain power and it ripping the country apart.

Roger Ebert . . . has a solution. "Kids who wear American Flag T-shirts on 5 May should have to share a lunchroom table with those who wear a hammer and sickle on 4 July," he tweeted. No problem. Five patriotic kids with the brass to stand up to school administrators vs. a couple of skinny dweebs and fat girls with Lefty parents who may still be on drugs. I think the confrontation would be short and exciting. And personally, I'm betting on the patriots. Any takers?
To: Chet 99
"We don't deserve to be get disrespected like that. We wouldn't do that on Fourth of July." Some more days to fly the American flag.
May 1, the non-battle of Puebla to celebrate when the city surrendered to the US Army without a fight.
September 14, the day the American flag was hoisted above the palace in Mexico City.
And while we are at it, let's kick the stupid Pennsylvania rodent to the curb and make February 2nd a national holiday celebrating the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

Ebert's comment makes absolutely no sense.
A more appropriate analogy would be a principal in Mexico sending Mexican students home for wearing Mexican colors on the 4th of July.
Apparently Ebert would be okay with that.
Or, he's a hypocrite.

If the students of mexican decent wanted to show their own “class act” status, they themselves would wear the identical shirts and speak in support of the students.
With no excuses, exceptions, or azlan/la raza BS.

"but today is sensitive to Mexican Americans because it's supposed to be their holiday
A celebration of theft from the French and the one skirmish the mexican bandits won in the war they lost? Ahhh, ok, sure.
Or perhaps Mr. Roger Ebert Would rather just enjoy sitting down to lunch with these fine fellows...
![](http://www.discoverseaz.com/Graphics/History/VillaSM.gif)
Or perhaps he would rather not? He might wind up like these guys;
![](http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/nm/images/bandits.jpg)
Because this is the "sensitivity" that they seem to actually understand.
![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6b/Rangers1915.JPG)
Because historically, that is the sort of thing that got then to stop their ways at the u.S. border.
Old news you say Mr. Ebert? That never happens any more?
Sorry Mr. Ebert, but is an everyday thing now.
Enjoy your lunch, Mr. Ebert.
