Last August, researchers at Rutgers University contacted 1,202 unemployed men and women nationwide to discuss their plight. Two months ago this research team was able to reconnect with 908 of those same people and discovered that an astonishing 80 percent were still out of work and only 13 percent had found full-time employment.
Worse, only one in 10 of the 13 percent had found jobs that paid them as much as their last salary.
Tomorrow, the Labor Department will announce its monthly jobs report for April, a statistic that isn't very important to the general public but is urgent to Wall Street. Experts are predicting that about 190,000 new jobs were created in April, up from 162,000 in March.
After March, April will show job growth, followed by May, June and July. Not too bad, you'd think, except that Americans still seem to be in a funk about the economy, a fact confounding everyone from politicians to professors to retail store managers.

I can only speak for myself and my husband. While working in an industry that is tied to building and new construction, we work for a small business. I have seen this week alone, 2 businesses that I serve call me to tell me they were closing their doors by today. People owe us money for 45-60days if not more. Manufacturers expect us to pay them in 20-30 days or you go on credit hold and can’t get materials. I do not see how anyone can claim it is getting better.
My income 4 years ago was 6 figures. I am half of that now and sinking monthly.
I don’t care what the government tells us, it is not getting better. Once my company loses and closes down, which it will if it doesn’t change, my husband and I will be in our mid 50”s with no marketable skills to get us a government job! We are salespeople and have been our whole lives. There are plenty of us out there.
Prepare for the insurrection that is coming.
Why the hell is it so hard for everyone, except the idiots in the media and the Beltway bandits to see that were not in a recovery?!!?
America is hurting and the detachment the ruling class seems to have over the working class is frustrating. When the elite come out and say that all is fine, It makes the working class feel as if the elite want the workers to stay poor, broken and on the verge of losing their jobs...
“When the elite come out and say that all is fine, It makes the working class feel as if the elite want the workers to stay poor, broken and on the verge of losing their jobs...”
They do.
And their worker class minions that believe that tripe go on repeating it, even though hours are slim, or they are still unemployed; for some reason they believe they avoided the next big depression with Obama.
I’m in Construction too. I work for an Independent testing company.
We still have work but it’s bid so low that they’re constantly complaining about hours and I struggle to get 40.
When times were good, they complained when you started to exceed 65 or more.
America is NO longer in a recession. It's OVER. The President saved us all from the biggest depression in history.
You will just have to get used to higher unemployment that Bush created, but just wait for all of the Democrats agenda to get passed, if it were not because of those nasty Republicans fighting them, we would all be working in high paying Union jobs with unlimited benefits. And we will all save money and make money for the Government under them, just by tripling it's size. (The CBO said so.)
But after all those new bills recently passed will save us so much money, we won't have to work any more. Government will take care of us like it was intended to do from the start. Just you wait and see.........
The Washington DC metro area is thriving. Same too most political capitals.
These have been a boon time for government paper pushers.
Paper money, paper degrees, selling paper products....so long as the tree’s hold out and if not them then so long as there is no shortage of pixels...

But the weird things is that those unemployment figures are still labeled by the press as “Unexpected”.
It takes brains to “expect” something... brains and the media... ha ha!
