Hawaii House Seat Slipping Away From Democrats
Wall Street Journal ^ | 5-6-10 | Susan Davis

President Barack Obama won Hawaii’s first congressional district in 2008 with 70% of the vote, but on May 22 the president’s hometown seat is probably going to fall to the GOP in a special election.

Maryland Democratic Rep. Chris Van Hollen, who runs the Democrats’ campaign operation, told reporters that they would “have to re-evaluate” their efforts to win. Translation: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is likely going to pull out of the race altogether.

The news is welcome to House Republicans, but this race shouldn’t be viewed as a bellwether because of the quirks in the Hawaii election.

For starters, it’s expected to be a low turnout affair and it’s a mail-only ballot. Additionally, all of the candidates are on the same ballot, and the election is winner-take-all, meaning a victory is possible with just a plurality of support.

But Democrats’ biggest problem in Hawaii is Democrats...

Certain reporters can be counted on to explain away any opposition win this fall as resulting from "quirks in the election process."

The real bellwether this month comes four days earlier, on May 18. The late Jack Murtha, who called our Marines "cold blooded murderers" after the battle of Haditha, will be replaced in a special election in Pennsylvania. The Hawaii election splits the overwhelmingly Democratic electorate between two Democrats, and will probably allow the GOP candidate, Charles Djou, to walk away with a win solely because of fighting between Democrats. But in Murtha's old district, it's one Republican against one Democrat in a district where Murtha won for decades. The lamestream media won't be able to blame it on "quirks in the election process."

Hawaii, though beautiful, is a cesspool of socialist racist islanders and transplant homosexuals all wanting something from the treasury.

I wouldn’t believe any bulldroppings coming from the dems on any seat, or any other topic.
