SUFFERN, N.Y. (AP) — Pro Football Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was charged Thursday with raping a 16-year-old runaway in an encounter that police said was arranged by a man who beat her up before driving her to Taylor's suburban hotel room while she texted her uncle for help.
Taylor, a 51-year-old former New York Giants star who has faced drug and tax evasion charges in the past, paid the girl $300 for sex in a Holiday Inn, where he was arrested early Thursday, said Christopher St. Lawrence, supervisor of the town of Ramapo.
Ramapo Chief of Police Peter Brower said Taylor was cooperative when police woke him up around 4 a.m. Taylor was arraigned Thursday on charges of third-degree rape and patronizing a prostitute.
"I'm not that important," Taylor told a scrum of media after being released on $75,000 bail.

I think I’ll wait until the jury’s in on this one. This is a MAJOR sports icon we’re talking about.
These guys are popular enough to get serviced without too much trouble. It always causes me to wonder what kind of a jackass would trouble some sixteen year old, when they could probably find a cute 17 year old who was more than willing.
Not that I approve of any of this, but geez, at least have enough common sense to avoid prison time for yourself.

A combination of the fact that he’s a star and the fact that he paid for it make a lengthy prison sentence pretty unlikely.

The guy who sold a young girl and beat her up is evil and beyond the point where we should hope for his redemption. He needs to go to prison forever. As for Lawrence Taylor, I’m not a fan, but I think he needs a fair trial. If he asked for a “very young” girl however that is normally phrased in that line of work, or if he had reason to believe that she was underage, I’m not the forgiving type. If he was simply asking for a prostitute and didn’t know, it’s still pretty disgusting, but it’s quite different. The details matter at age 16 (but not at much younger ages as with Polanski who knew and drugged his 13 y/o victim).
I’d forgotten that it was Taylor that did that.

I get the feeling since she was with her pimp that he may have been set up? Do men check ID’s when they hire hookers? Not to excuse it but if you are hiring someone for that purpose through their pimp....?
