Washington (CNN) Sarah Palin broke ranks with the conservative movement on Thursday and endorsed former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in California's Republican Senate primary, prompting a flurry of criticism from many of her loyal supporters.
After Palin announced the endorsement on her Facebook page, a number of her followers questioned why she would side with Fiorina instead of the more conservative candidate in the race, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore.
DeVore has the backing of several leading voices in the conservative movement, including Sen. Jim DeMint, RedState.com editor Erick Erickson and the Tea Party Express.
Though a handful of readers agreed with Palin's decision, most were upset.
"This is very, very disappointing," Rick Sheridan, one of her supporters, posted on Palin's page. "Sarah, you've got to be more careful. This woman does not represent conservative values. And the choice is so clear. Serious damage to your base here."
"Wow, Sarah...I'm saddened and shocked by your decision to endorse Carly Fiorina," commented another backer, Jennifer Goode. "Had you done your research, you would have found that Chuck DeVore is the ONLY true conservative in the California Senate race."

Her work on John McCain’s team, her likely support of the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor, her support of the Wall Street Bailouts, her support of Cap & Trade, her praise of Jesse Jackson and her penchant of spewing gender and racial rhetoric... and that’s of what we know. Else, she’s an empty-suit much like Arnold Schwarzenegger was and can spew nice sounding cliches, but without a record (and a paltry voting record), who really knows what she stands for?
Well, I certainly hope a ‘handler’ is responsible for this decision. I consider it a vote killer, myself.
DeVore campaign response to CA Pro-Life Council Endorsement of Carly Fiorina
I have friends who worked for HP. There is plenty of information on the bitter infighting at HP between Carly and the old guard available on the web. It’s from the business press and it’s well documented. Carly took a company famous for its excellent scientific instruments and turned it into a PC manufacturer. She took it from being a company that was rated among the best to work for in America to being just another China outsourced American brand.
Uh, so was Bart Stupak. Carly offers only perfunctory lip service on the issue. She's even on record as being a big admirer of Diane Feinstein and has admitted that she would have confirmed pro-abortion Sotomayer to the Supreme Court.
She also believes that the abortion issue is "settled" and that overturning the opinion is not a priority.
In other words, on the abortion issue, she's trying to play it both ways. But that's what unprincipled politicians do.
Why is it no one gets the benefit of the doubt? Every decision, statement or endorsement is a potential door to RINOism.
If you don't believe in her enough to know she's doing what she thinks is best...pull up your skirts and run away. You never believed in her anyway.
“Give people something to vote for instead of something to vote against. That’s the problem with the modern Republican Party; we get too many nose-holding candidates and we then wonder how a person like Barack Obama gets into office.”
That’s certainly been the problem here in CA. When Hershchensohn made a run for the Senate his biggest opposition came not from Democrats, but from the “moderates” in the GOP. When that crowd says “big tent” they mean conservatives better vote for their guy, because they will work against you in the general if you beat them.
Exactly.

Awww, did someone around here fail to believe in Sarah? Well, they must be heretics or something!
I mean, what conservative could possibly object to reelecting McCain? Certainly not you. And Fiorina, well who cares what she stands for? I mean she has an (R) next to her name, and that’s all that matters. Isn’t it?
You might need to be reminded that Dubya did nothing to build up the party, nothing to build up a candidate base for his own support across the country, nothing to even win his own presidential race when the Democrats were rigging the vote count(s) in Florida. The grassroots did it all for him. Then he thanked the grassroots by promptly stabbing them in the back for eight years.
Sarah appears to be building a nationwide party. I don't agree with some of the candidates she is endorsing, but the vast majority of them will win their primaries and the general. She will have a broad base of support nationwide.
Even her opponents in Alaska said to never underestimate this woman, and that was when she had very little capital resources with which to work.
We really don't know what numbers she is using to make her endorsement decisions in the various states. We don't know who all are providing her advice. **
What we do know is that she is visiting spots all over the map, and drawing good crowds at every one. She is staying positive, on message, and she's smacking down this commie regime every time they open their lying flytraps.
** Since we're in one of those once-in-a-lifetime crisis eras, when the vast majority of people are forced to choose between one side or the other, between good and evil, in a major epic struggle for all the marbles of civilization and its future, it is safe to assume (from my point of view) that all the evil advisers and their advice are gravitating toward Obama and his organ grinders, and all the good advisers and their advice are gravitating toward Sarah Palin.
Or do you think she's just going along with the wishes of the party bosses?
Sounds good to me. :-)
Sorry, Fluffy, politics is for advanced skiers. You need to go play on the Tinkerbell Hill where everyone delights in being defeated "on principle".
And that’s great that you think he could win. I’m sure that through the years, all of Boxer’s opponent’s volunteers believed the same thing during their candidates run, but Boxer still managed to get elected.
This thread was about Palin endorsing Fiorna, and what I stated was my opinion on why she did so. I wish you all the luck in the world there.
What was she supposed to do, endorse the sure loser DeVore? Flame away, I don’t care. He has no chance at all.
What, specifically, has she said or done to earn it?
California is what happens when the Open Borders wing of politics floods an American state with future liberal Democrat voters. We tried to do slow that destruction back in 1994 when we passed Prop 187, with no help from the pro-illegal wing of the GOP. You know, the wing that called Minutemen “vigilantes”, the wing that made speeches at La Raza conventions. I think you know some of those people, they hail from Crawford.
Next I asked her the Rick Warren abortion question: "At what point does a baby get human rights?"
"At conception," Fiorina responded. "I believe life begins at conception." I followed up by noting that some pro-lifers favor a Human Life Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, while others support leaving the matter to the states, as was the case before Roe v. Wade, and asked her which apporach she favors. "I support leaving it to the states," Fiorina answered, saying she's a strong believer in federalism and the rights of states to regulate their own affairs.
Does that attempt at cute rhetoric impress anyone other than you?
