AZ-Sen. 2010: McCain likely grinning as GOP accepts open primary (will Rats save their Maverick?)

The Republican Party is re-opening its big umbrella - or more accurately, not closing its primary after all.

At a meeting over the weekend, the state executive committee decided to forgo a legal challenge to a law that allows independents to choose which primary they want to vote in.

While some members argue that Republicans should be choosing the party's nominee, state GOP spokesman Matt Roberts said the group decided to hold off until at least until next year, given the slow wheels of justice and the looming August primary.

Somewhere, John "Don't Call Me Maverick" McCain is probably a happy senator. Not so much challenger J.D. Hayworth, whose strongest appeal may be to the more conservative Republicans who are faithful primary voters.

“Let Us Help You Pack”

A new song from the Heartland of Colorado ! A real catchy tune!! Should be the theme song for the next few elections.
Speakers up.

Could help JD if independents are shifting over to the GOP with many coming from the tea party movement. And I would think that the Dems would rather face Hayworth than McCain.

Sounds like the old mash lyrics: “suicide is painless, it brings on many changes, and I can take or leave it as I please”.

An open primary effectively will kill off Hayworth.

This was done specifically for McCain. Wonder how much he pledged to donate to the Rep. party of AZ.

Maybe not. If enough people in AZ are concerned about illegals, they will do the right thing.

No real surprise.

That is how he got the presidential nomination.

I've posted many times before:
McCain holds too may i.o.u.'s for the party machine to turn against him.

There is one thing the ARIZ GOP forgot with their open primary and that is the real possibility that conservatives will run their own candidate as a third party. Gee, can the GOP be any more stupid?

So far though only J.D. Hayworth has had the guts to challenge McLame. Not going to be easy especially given the size of McLame’s war chest and all the favors he is owed.

Sadly, yes. Yes they can.

Watch who they nominate in 2012. The party of Dole and McCain lives on.

McCain has been around a long time, no doubt he has a lot of Party loyalists. Sprinkle in money to local Party coffers from Cindy, and ...poof... the State Party hapily folds like a cheap tent in McCain's own campground.
