Video surfaces of SWAT team shooting pet dog during raid

The video of a Columbia, Mo., SWAT team shooting and killing a dog during a drug raid is now available online, due in part to the efforts of the Columbia Daily Tribune.

The video shows members of the Columbia Police Department executing a narcotics raid on the home of Jonathan Whitworth. While the raid, which occurred in February, only turned up a misdemeanor amount of marijuana and a glass pipe, the Columbia PD was able to charge Whitworth with second-degree child endangerment because a child lives in the home. That same child, age 7, was present when the Columbia PD conducted its raid and witnessed the police shoot both family pets — a pitbull, which was killed, and a corgi, which was shot in the leg — after they had safely entered the home.

“Did you shoot my f***ing dog?” Whitworth asks in the video. ”Oh my God, what the fuck did you do that for?”

Daily Tribune reporter Brennan David submitted a public information request for the video immediately after the charges were filed in February and was denied because the video was being used in criminal proceedings. “I knew that SWAT video was available and that SWAT teams use video. The deputy chief told me that he had watched it a few times,” David said.

Was he the one shooting?

Was the kid armed?

I don’t get your stance.

Guy might be a bad dude or even a miscreant but the cops totally F’d this on up and real live were at risk for their risky behavior and real lives were lost.

There is no rule saying “Do it the way they did it” but, for their arrogance.

Like I said, dude may be on the wrong side but they did not bust him for anything significant and let him plea to a misdemeanor infraction.

How does that square with guns going off?

Looks like a marginally good outcome.

How many bullets need to be fired before your happy and a kid, a wife or even your so called bad man are killed?

Just tell my which one you think should be shot and I will go with that.

Seems like your dude is a typical dealer and a menace to society. Based on his past no wonder they sent in the SWAT team. I noted there was no bank robbery, rape, burglary, murder, attempted murder etc...

His past background seems to be issues with alcohol and drugs...Big deal.

I don't see how that warrants his home being stormed in a military style raid, with law enforcement shooting rounds off in the home, while little kids are in the home and killing dogs etc...

It just did not warrant this type of response.

Question. Does a policemen, serving a legal warrant have the right to defend himself? Yes or No.

“Let them collect shopping carts at Walmart...”

Let them bend over and grab their ankles in the prison shower...

dealing cocaine, Assault, hit and run

Cocaine? Simple assault charge, and drunk driving? Big deal.

Most politicians are guilty of this type of behavior.

Ya have to remember, this military style raid was for drugs, which turned up nothing but paraphernalia...This is really low level crime my friend..

This did not warrant his home being stormed in a military style raid, with law enforcement shooting rounds off in the home, while little kids are in the home and killing dogs etc...

In real bad areas, this guy would fear for his life...This was total over kill response.

So he should take a bullet? The dog should take a bullet?

You have thus far just moved your side of the discussion sideways and not yet addressed the seriousness of the situation and have implicitly maybe even this side of explicitely, justified the actions of the cops.

If you think the cops can do what they did with no responsibility well then i guess that is just the way you roll.

One kid. Intelligence was wrong. Was not expecting kid in house.

You know, that is a really sick post. I have posted only facts but since you don't like my facts, you personally attack me.

Yes, everyone does.

However, the only violence here was perpetrated by the police.

There were no weapons, and the only violence was the police shooting the dogs.

Ohhhh? Well that makes it okay.

Let’s see:

Intelligence wrong

didn’t expect kid
Didn’t ecpect wife
Didn’t expect dogs
Didn’t find drugs

Allowed such a bad man to plea down to a nothing charge of misdemeanor infraction?

Come on. You are LEO and that’s okay. We support you, really but these guys F’d up and it becoming an all to common occurrence across the country.
