The Democratic nominee, Alexi Giannoulias has been under fire because of the failiure of Broadway Bank and his direct connection to it. Believe it or not, there are suspicions of corruption, incompetence and graft with regard to a Democrat in Chicago. Go figure! Obviously, this is such a damaging story for Giannoulias that Rep. Kirk has been able to gain some serious traction in the race by continuing to focus on the issue. Thats what a politician does when engaged in a tough campaign. Now we have the spectacle of one of the major local stations in Chicago threatening not to cover the campaign if the Republican continues to discuss the most damaging aspect of his opponents record. Is this the role of an FCC licensed station, entrusted with the role of serving the public interest in relation to a free-flow of information for the citizenry? Maybe in Chicago it is.
REPORTER: Channel 2s made a decision. Were really not going to cover the Senate race, if its consistently only in your terms, is about Broadway Bank. The banks been taken over by the government, Alexis been pilloried. Tell me, what is your campaign going forward? What are the issues you are going to tell the voters why they should vote for you?

Where’s November when you need it?
“REPORTER: Channel 2s made a decision. Were really not going to cover the Senate race, if its consistently only in your terms, is about Broadway Bank.”
COMPLETELY UNBIASED LIBERAL MEDIA, right?
It would help if there was a GOP senate candidate to start with.
I was just thinking about that....I wonder if Channel 2 had the same stance back then..... /s
Mark Kirk is pro-partial birth abortion, pro-cap and trade, pro-amnesty, pro-gun control, and pro-big government.
He is the most liberal Republican in the country.
The Democratic nominee, Alexi Giannoulias has been under fire because of the failiure of Broadway Bank and his direct connection to it. Believe it or not, there are suspicions of corruption, incompetence and graft with regard to a Democrat in Chicago... this is such a damaging story for Giannoulias that Rep. Kirk has been able to gain some serious traction in the race by continuing to focus on the issue. That's what a politician does when engaged in a tough campaign... one of the major local stations in Chicago threatening not to cover the campaign if the Republican continues to discuss the most damaging aspect of his opponent's record. Is this the role of an FCC licensed station, entrusted with the role of serving the public interest in relation to a free-flow of information for the citizenry? This whole scandal isn't getting any coverage from that particular station, and they suddenly feel like the last doughnut, or what? No, they're just a group of partisan media shills, that's all they've been, and all they'll ever be.
He is no longer pro cap-and-trade after receiving numerous e-mails from his constituents (yours truly included).
He may be one of the most liberal members of the Republican party, (he’s a right winger compared to guys like the former Sen. Lincoln Chaffee) but he won’t vote for Harry Reid as Senate Majority leader.
Can you tell me the last time Illinois has elected a conservative Republican to the Senate?
Was the reporter who made this statement Mike Flannery?
I can't say I'd rather have the Kirk's opponent than have Mark Kirk, but I'd rather have the seat sit vacant than have Kirk occupy it.
I believe it was 1998. The Illinois RINO's decision to push out Fitzgerald in 2004 is what allowed Obama to rise to power.
Sen. Peter Fitzgerald was actually pretty conservative.
He was also the only freaking person in the whole Senate to oppose the stupid spending bill to bail out the airlines after 9/11.
He even had the US Attorney’s office investigate Republican governor Ryan and then the Democratic governor Blagojevitch that followed him. On top of that, he filibustered a spending bill because it included massive funds for an Illinois library in Springfield, the Lincoln Library.
We can do pretty well on the conservative side. I sure wish he was still in there. He was a truly decent, wonderful guy.
I forgot about Peter. Yes, he was a good principled man who barely beat the worst sitting US Senator - Carol Mostly Fraud. She was so toxic that only the Yellow Dog Democrats voted for her.
He didn’t stand for re-election because his poll numbers were in the low 30’s. The Illinois RINOs didn’t help him, but might have if he had been a viable re-election candidate.
As it happened Illinois voted for an obscure state senator who voted “present” a lot and got an old hippy radical friend to write books for him. Not to mention his wife’s $300K HR job that did not need to be filled when she became First Lady. Not to mention the multimillion dollar house he bought with help from Tony Rezko. Not to mention that his property taxes are mysteriously low. Not to mention ...
Gee, do you think we might be all better off if a squishy Republican had been elected.
I don’t think the libs will mention this when they start screaming about the need for another “Fairness” doctrine....
Screw the ultra liberal Kirk and hell no I won’t vote for him.
*IL Politics Ping*
IL has a GOP Senate candidate ? Two Socialist Combiners, not a dime’s worth of difference.
Randy Stufflebeam is a good alternative, a real conservative.
