Local political gadfly arrested for exploiting elderly woman

PROVO -- A Provo man was booked into jail Sunday on charges of exploiting an elderly adult.

Donald Roy Savage, 56, is charged with exploiting an elderly adult with intent to profit, a 2nd-degree felony, according to 4th District Court documents. Savage is known as a political gadfly and has been involved with local political campaigns. He lists estate planning as his occupation on his Twitter account.

Savage became acquainted with a 74-year-old woman at a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints singles dance more than a year ago, and soon after began charging thousands of dollars in personal expenses to her credit card, said Lt. Arnold Lemmon of the Brigham Young University Police Department.

"His [modus operandi] is through the church; he met her at the LDS singles dance, groomed her, befriended her -- all under the color of religion," Lemmon said.

The situation started out very innocently in the victim's eyes, Lemmon said, with Savage borrowing her card with excuses that he was in between jobs, or "had a check coming." These expenses included groceries, gas and car repairs.

The victim's boiling point was reached when $3,600 in BYU football tickets were charged to her card, Lemmon said. This included a membership in the BYU Cougar Club, a tickets package that provides high-priority seating, gifts and parking passes to those who pay yearly dues, which run from $50 to $1,000, depending on the level.

"He was still playing the religion card," Lemmon said. "She finally said, 'Enough is enough.' "

The victim called the BYU ticket office and refused payment, he said, at which point the ticket office informed BYU police. Upon discovering that more than $20,000 in charges to the woman's card (including an iPhone) were racked up over the course of eight months, the county attorney opted for an elderly abuse charge, filing it April 8, Lemmon said.

Savage's source of income was "sporadic" over the course of the year, Lemmon said, but he wasn't trying to sell the tickets for money.

"I guess it was to invite a group of people -- 'Come to a game on me,' " he said.

According to court documents, the incident happened in May 2009, and Savage is set to make his first court date appearance on Wednesday.

Oh, wait . . . you are not the judge.

I don't have to be, nor wannabe. (But I can still be a witness and present evidence when prompted by The Advocate).

Saundra, when you say these things, of course, you make it want to sound so biblical. And perhaps, because of your Christian background, you indeed may view things biblically as distinct from other Mormons. (I don't know).

But your bare bones presentation of a skeletal view of Mormonism doesn't pass the post-mortem autopsy of MormonISM. What do I mean? Well, lurkers, I challenge you to compare how Saundra "sounds" Christianese, but a quick check underneath the hood of Mormonism and its leaders makes me wonder why Saundra has been dieting off of Mormon "meat"???

This is the Mormon false gospel version of “atonement” – where they say: “Hey, do ALL you can do…physically, spiritually, morally, emotionally, etc. And, after you can genuinely tell us, with having a sincere heart, with real intent, that you’ve done 100% possibly ALL YOU CAN DO in EVERY aspect of life, THEN, and only THEN, will God’s grace kick in for you…If you can’t say ‘ALL’ in the ‘ALL you can do’, you’ve aborted the entire verse and premise of God’s grace kicking in, Mormon style!

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches that the Holy Ghost is a spirit man… (Encyclopedia of Mormonism, vol. 2, p. 649)

What? Why does the Lds Church try to reduce not the only the Father, but the Holy Ghost to define Him in terms of a mere man??? (No, SD, the Holy Ghost is not a “spirit man”!)

This quote from Smith prompts me to ask you: “Why is the Bible then run ONLY thru the filter of Joseph Smith? What? He is your personal ‘holy ghost?’”

Brigham Young: “We have at times sent men on missions to get rid of them; but they have generally come back. Some think it is an imposition upon the world to send such men among them. But which is best – to keep them here to pollute others, or to send them where pollution is more prevalent? Ten filthy sheep in a flock of a thousand will so besmear the whole, that, to the eye of a stranger, they all appear to be worthless, when nine hundred and ninety of them are as good as can be, but for the outside smearing by the ten filthy ones. We have tried to turn the filthy ones out of the flock, but they will not always stay out. A few such defile, to outward appearance, the whole flock; and we have it to bear.” (April 7, 1860, Journal of Discourses, vol. 7, pp. 228-229)

(Wow, Saundra, what a “stellar” description of why Mormons were turning out some of their missionaries in the 1850s!!!)

Nobody here accused you of not believing that the mormon jesus sweated in the Garden of Gethsemane to “atone” for the mormons...

we’ve just been telling you that the REAL Jesus shed His blood on the Cross and died omn the Cross to save everyone...

No work of salvation was done by the Jesus of the Chrsitian bible in the Garden of Gethsemane...

It was all done at Calvary...

Youre free to believe that giant salamanders live on the moon and bray at the Earth on Festivus Night for your atonement....

But it doesnt make it connected to Chrsitianity just because joey Smith or you says it is..

Thefre is only one way to God and that ois through Jesus Christ, the Second person of the Trinity..

Joey Smith has nothing to do with our salvation...
