FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - A foster father who previously faced 85 counts of criminal sexual penetration against a minor has been arrested on six counts of the same crime after a different alleged victim videotaped 1 of the incidents.
Forty-5-year-old Todd Mortensen confessed to the six counts, which reportedly occurred between March 22 and March 30 in his home, where the 12-year-old alleged victim lived as a foster child.
Mortensen was arrested...and booked into the San Juan County Adult Detention Center on six charges of second-degree criminal sexual contact of a minor younger than the age 13.

Mortensen is not facing the previous 85 charges, which were dismissed by prosecutors in 2005, but the District Attorney's Office is looking into the old case.

I dont think it is an LDS problem at all. It is societies. We allow perverts access to our children.
Certainly the whole of society has degenerated... as we all can see that. If we upheld the Christian worldview, we wouldn't even see things like Mormonism (or Islam or other cult and non-Christian groups holding sway in our society).
"Religious ideas" do have real-life consequences in the places where we live everyday, even if they are ideas that haven't fully come about yet.
We see Islam and their "religious ideas" of having a world-wide government that will govern all the nations of the world and that this must be put into place "by the sword" (even though the idea hasn't fully come about yet). They engage in terrorism as part of this process to bring about those "religious ideas" and turn it into a government that we must all live under (under Islam, that is).
And likewise, when you have religious ideas that tell you that if you're a faithful Mormon and qualify (according to what Mormonism says) then you can be a god of your own universe and you can have multiple wives by sexually impregnating all of them, continuously throughout eternity ... that tends to have some consequences in the "here and now" as some try to "get a head start" on that idea ... doncha know ...
It's a good thing that Christianity doesn't teach any such thing and that Christians don't turn to that kind of idea for what the future will bring for those who believe in the Messiah of Israel.
You sound an awful lot like the libtards who insisted that the Times Square bombing attempt had to have been committed by a white, conservative Christian with ties to the TEA Party protests.
Don't you love being in such fine company, bigot?
Nobody here except you cares whether or not he's LDS. Even if he is, that doesn't make every Mormon a pedophile. Remember all the threads about Catholic Priests and Public School Teachers? Why didn't you ask if he was a Priest or a School Teacher?
You were saying...
That not all Mormons are predators. Many are really decent people.
True especailly in the foster care system. I forget the odds but it is pretty high that a child that goes into the fostercare system has a higher chance of having something like this happen to them than those who stay in their home with bio Mom and Dad.
You sound an awful lot like the libtards who insisted that the Times Square bombing attempt had to have been committed by a white, conservative Christian with ties to the TEA Party protests.
No, when I heard about that failed bombing attempt in New York City, I thought about the religion that exemplifies that sort of thing... Islam and their desire to enslave the entire world under their government and oppression -- and do so "by the sword" and "terror" ...
That's what came to mind first for me.
Like I said, "religious ideas" do have real-life consequences.
So, when I see a religion that says that a Mormon who is faithful and good enough (according to their own teachings) will be able to have multiple wives throughout eternity and keep procreating and filling their "own universe" (that they control) with millions upon millions of children by perpetually having sex with their multiple wives for eternity -- then I suspect that some are trying to "get a head start" right here and now ...
I'm sure glad that Christianity doesn't have these kinds of ideas that it teaches Christians... thank goodness for that ...
Charges amended in foster father rape case
Mortensen was accused of repeatedly raping a 15-year-old foster daughter between March 1 and May 30, 2003. The girl was placed in Mortensen's home in 2002 after her adoptive family encountered some problems, according to police records.
He also was accused of threatening the girl with a gun.
Police believed Mortensen used his membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to influence the girl. He allegedly told her intercourse was allowed because he was mistakenly listed as her spouse on her baptism certificate, according to police records.

While DNA evidence retrieved from semen found in the victim's underwear indicated the perpetrator was Mortensen, it did not point to him conclusively, making the victim's testimony even more vital to the case, Kuykendall said.
"At the time it was coming up for trial there were some issues, personal and private issues with the victim," former prosecutor Lisa Kuykendall said. "The parents and I met and talked extensively and felt like it would be more detrimental to try to force her to testify."
Kuykendall no longer works in San Juan County.
I suspect they are. My objection is using this incident to smear a group that particular poster apparently dislikes. I disagree with their theology but, so what?
I dont think it is an LDS problem at all. It is societies. [Edcoil]
OOOHHH...so they only molested kids that were not Mormon? Had they gone through Mormon connections things might have been different..I wonder??? [Morgana]
Well, Edcoil, is, of course, right. This transcends church affiliation.
But that's a different Question as to whether some things tend to be kept hidden, when they need to be exposed...and that sexual abuse is more epidemic than we think in certain quarters:
For example:
Heber charity founder Lon Kennard Sr. charged with years of sexual abuse
Family apologizes after sexual abuse arrest [Lds bishop]
LDS Youth Leader Accused of Sex With Kids
April trial set for ex-LDS seminary principal
LDS Church says local leaders handled claims against Garn
The first step toward dealing with an epidemic is to realize there is one. (Versus putting up PR shields)
You will find San Juan County, New Mexico, on the AAA "Indian Country" map, if you didn't already know this isn't "Mormon Country". What a comment.
From the article:
The Mortensens, who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, did not go through the church system, but may have used community connections within the church to offer assistance to other families.
They did not use the LDS placement system. Still, perverts like this are notorious for infiltrating groups with youth connections to get access to victims. It's certainly nothing unique to Mormons.
The professor at Duke adopted a young boy and spent years molesting him. He was only caught when he offered other perverts the opportunity to rape his son on the internet.
We need to get rid of molestors. Not attack an organization they might be involved it. If he was a volunteer fire fighter as well do we get rid of volunteer fire fighters?
continued his foster role after having more than 80 counts of sex-crime charges dropped in 2005

Unbelievable....
My observation (and I have done professional work in the area) does not indicate that LDS are more likely to offend in this way than members of most other faiths, including my own church. Let’s not pick on the Mormons, who usually make fabulous neighbors, when it’s undeserved.
Do you post this advice on the many threads regarding Catholic Priests and sexual abuse?
According to reports, this man used his and his wife's membership in the mormon church to recruit children into their home, and then used mormon beliefs to coerce the victims.
Mormonism teaches members from childhood to honor and obey those men who "hold the Priesthood" and this nasty pervert took advantage of that fact, with the wife, also taught from childhood to honor and obey as his accomplice.
The professor at Duke adopted a young boy and spent years molesting him. He was only caught when he offered other perverts the opportunity to rape his son on the internet.
You'll note that almost all the FReepers that posted about that sexual molesting made a big deal about the "group" he was involved with ... "homosexuals" ...
That's because the group that you belong to, which has "ideas" and "teachings" and "philosophies" about certain things in life -- end up "carrying it out" in real life, many times.
That's why when we heard about this guy and that he was a homosexual... we knew "what the story was" right then and there...
And when we hear about some Middle Eastern looking guy who parks a car in New York City and tries to blow it up (even though it was a failed attempt) that this is part of "another group" -- who has "ideas" and "philosophies" that they also carry out in "real life" ... and we know that group to be Islam and its core teachings (that many want to deny... that those teachings even exist in Islam and/or is a core and foundational teaching of Islam ...)
Thus, when we see a group that says that if you're faithful enough in this group that you get to have multiple wives and have sex with them forever, and have all the kids you want -- and have your own universe that you control totally and completely and you have all those women under your control -- to do all this with -- we also know that "groups like that" -- have those "ideas" and "philosophies" which end up being "carried out in real life"...
And so, while there are "other people" who blow up things -- we know who blows up the most things in this world by acts of terrorism, and we know what kinds of things that homosexuals end up doing as part of their ideas and philosophies ... so it's no stretch to also understand that another group also tends towards this kind of behavior -- even when there are "other people" who do this.
It appears this pervert used his church connections to have these young girls placed in his home.

Joey Smith did the same thing...
Even if he is, that doesn’t make every Mormon a pedophile.

No but unfortunately every mormon believes what a pedophile had to say...
Not attack an organization they might be involved it. If he was a volunteer fire fighter as well do we get rid of volunteer fire fighters?
If that particular group of firefighters had a set of teachings and philosophies that made this part of their group -- then yes, you get rid of that group and get another kind of group (who doesn't have those teachings and philosophies) to fight fires ... :-)
If you had some fire-fighting organization that fire-fighters were members of that perpetrated an idea of having your own universe of children that you fathered, by having sex with multiple wives for eternity -- and they would number in the millions upon millions, beyond any count that you could make that you were sexually procreating and forming in this universe that you totally control -- then I would definitely get rid of that fire-fighting group -- in short order ... LOL ...
“You’ll note that almost all the FReepers that posted about that sexual molesting made a big deal about the “group” he was involved with ... “homosexuals” ...”
This of course is true for the simple fact; being attracted to someone with your same plumbing means you are a homosexual.
