Usama bin Laden gets up each morning in his dark, damp cave in northern Pakistan, gripped by fear, listening carefully for the telltale sound of a drone that is searching for him. His isolation is almost complete. Only a few trusted associates know where he is, and they visit rarely -- bringing food and news, but careful not to fall into a routine. There is no radio or other electronic device whose signal might be followed. He cant go out in daytime for fear of satellites. It is a grim, lonely existence.
At least, that is the picture that has emerged of the life of the worlds most wanted man since he fled Tora Bora in 2001.
But a new and vastly different picture of the Al Qaeda leader's life has been emerging over the past few years. In this scenario, he wakes each morning in a comfortable bed inside a guarded compound north of Tehran. He is surrounded by his wife and a few children. He keeps a low profile, is allowed limited travel and, in exchange for silence, is given a comfortable life under the protection of Iran's Revolutionary Guard.
The idea that Bin Laden is in Iran got a strong boost recently with the premiere of a documentary called Feathered Cocaine. In it, Alan Parrot, the films subject and one of the worlds foremost falconers, makes a case that Bin Laden, an avid falcon hunter, has been living comfortably in Iran since at least 2003 and continues to pursue the sport relatively freely. He is relaxed, healthy and, according to the film, very comfortable.
To make his case, Parrot, president of the Union for the Conservation of Raptors, took two Icelandic filmmakers, Om Marino Arnarson and Thorkell S. Hardarson, into the secretive world of falconers.

Osama bin Laden is worm poop.
I really don’t believe that the fanatical Shiite Iranian Imams would provide a comfortable living to a fanatical Sunni leader. Both call each form of Islam total heresy.
and when he went I hope he burned alive SLOWLY and checked out in great pain and agony.
I find it very hard to believe he could have gotten away with this for at least 5 years under Bush/Cheney. If he did then the country is worse off than I fear...
He was living in Tehran prior to 9/11 so why wouldn’t he go back?
Read Billy Waugh’s book “Hunting The Jackal”, he talks about watching Bin Laden in Iran before the CIA thought he was much of a big deal:

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, communist terrorist totalitarian dictator of Islamic Republic of Iran, has forged a close friendship with Hugo Chavez, communist dictator of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The latter is a Fidelista, perhaps a vestigial Christian, not a Muslim, and certainly not a fanatical Shiite. Our enemies can overcome these drastic cultural differences, so bridging the simpler Shiite/Sunni divide should not surprise us. Reading the news, I see an increasing alliance between the Islamofascists (Shiite and Sunni and otherwise) and the Russian/communist bloc, including the narcoterrorists and Mexican drug cartels, and increasing cooperation within these blocs against America and her vestigial allies.
Islamic Republic of Iran increasingly acts as a superpower, leading our array of enemies against us. We must find a way to stop them. But Obama forsakes our allies in his attempt to deliver us into the hands of our enemies. May he not succeed.
We knew his family was in Iran all these years, and I’ve occasionally offered that as my theory, as have a few others at FR. I can’t claim to be completely prescient as I had a couple of other pet theories too, so one way or another I could claim... I knew it all along. :)
The idea that sunni and shia never cooperate isn’t any more valid than the idea that secular and religious muslims don’t cooperate. Bin Ladin was a bit of a hired gun. Al Qaeda is useful to whoever controls it. The idea that Saddam and Bin Ladin had nothing to do with one another was false, and it wasn’t a complete secret when he sought refuge in Iran for his family. And, perhaps, for himself. That part was secret if true. But not unimaginable. If you’re crawling all over Waziristan with your spies and predators and can’t get him and can’t get anyone to give him up, its reasonable to imagine he’s not there.
Thats right.
They actually hated the Taliban, because the Talibs had executed some Iranians a number of years back. But they have aided them to get at us.
In Iraq, Iran supports shia gangs, while Syria supports Al Qaeda and Baathist gangs. Syria and Iran are joined at the hip, working opposite sides of the street, attacking us from left and from right. Whatever it takes.
“My enemy’s enemy is my friend” originated from Persia [Iran]. And the Great Satin [US] is a big enough target that Iran would ally with anyone against US.
After all, they can always kill off the heritics that survive the war with the Great Satin afterwords when they are no longer usefull allies...
Both sides are probably looking at this as an alliance of convienence.
I think his head came to DC in a box as ordered.
‘Bring me the head of Bin Laden’

I suspect this article may be correct.
I met with a former govgt operative/ source routinely aware of his whereabouts in March at a conference.
He asserted that the government knew where he was but did not want to get Bin Laden nor kill him—but I forget why. It made logical sense, at the time.
