CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - A University of Virginia men's lacrosse player was charged Monday with first-degree murder in the death of a women's lacrosse player. George Huguely, 22, of Chevy Chase, Md., was charged in the death of Yeardley Love, 22, of Cockeysville, Md., Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said. Both were seniors.
Longo said Love's roommate called police around 2:15 a.m. concerned that Love may have had an alcohol overdose, but police found her dead with obvious physical injuries to her body.
"It was quickly apparent to them that this young lady was the victim of something far worse," Longo said.

Me too, I think having three daughters makes me aware of how close girls can come to danger without even being aware.
I remember clearly the day that it hit me that just by walking thru life, one can brush up against terrible people and not even know it. Especially beautiful girls. I wondered if mine had come close to disaster and not known it.
Her Dad died when she was fifteen so her Mother is alone in this.
When I was in college, everyone’s hair was at least shoulder length. :)
My 19 year old son and his friends all have the “messy, tossled, they think they’re so hot hair”. It isn’t long, it just always looks like it needs a cut.
I have three sons. A different set of worries.
God, I feel for her Mom.
Hey...what’s wrong with Hokies? (ducking)

I imagine with boys, not having any, that accidents, fast driving, derring do would be on my mind. With girls, it is brushing up against bad people. Funny, I never worried they would go bad, I knew they wouldn’t and didn’t. But they were so innocent and protected when young that sometimes I worried they weren’t aware of the evil just around the corner.
I stand corrected. Thank you ladies.
good of you to admit your error; my faith in you is restored after this momentary lapse : )
His haircut, or lack thereof, speaks volumes.
Jesus had long hair.
This is scary. My daughter is a junior in high school. We just visited the College of William and Mary and UVA was also on her list of colleges to consider. My husband doesn’t want her to attend Tech because of their troubles and now he will probably scratch UVA from the list too.

Defense attorney calls death of Md. athlete ‘an accident’
Bail review hearing for lacrosse player charged with murder in Va. case postponed

Charlottesville, Va.
An attorney for the 22-year-old man charged with killing a University of Virginia varsity women’s lacrosse player from Cockeysville claimed Tuesday that the death of Yeardley Love was “an accident with a tragic outcome.”
In the first court proceeding since the alleged murder, George Huguely was shown sitting in a room in Charlottesville-Albemarle Regional Jail on a closed-circuit television screen in a courtroom packed with more than two dozen reporters. Dressed in striped prison jumpsuit, Huguely appeared nervous, his hands resting tensely on his knees, awaiting word from District Court Judge Robert Downer and his lawyer Francis Lawrence, a Charlottesville defense attorney.

I shall strive to live up to my usual low standards from now on.
Yeah, right - an accident. The old “the gun went off, I don’t know how” or “I didn’t hit her that hard, she fell” etc. etc.
I am withholding judgment until I know more. If he is guilty may God have mercy on his soul. Virginia is a death penalty state and they use it. He is over 21. If he is not guilty, if it truly was an accident and he panicked, I hope the facts become known.
We just don't know much at this point. We only know she is dead, she had visible signs of trauma, he was a person of interest in the first few hours and charged with first degree murder the next day.
We also know he was involved because his attorney said it was an accident.
That's it.
My only point being that the prisons and jails are full of people that killed other people “by accident”.
Prisons are full of religious innocents. No wonder the guilty walk the streets. There's no room!
:D
Megyn Kelly did a report last hour. It does not look good for this suspect. Per Poice reports: her door was kicked in and it appeared she had been repeatedly shaken and her head repeatedly hit against the wall. I think brain damage was mentioned (no surprise) but she was dead when EMT got there.
Autopsy being performed today.
I see a temporary insanity defense in this guy’s future. “I blacked out - I have no memory of going over to her house”.
If you noticed, he waived his Miranda rights when questioned. Not the smart thing to do, innocent or guilty. His attorney may be using the accident defense as a way of keeping the needle out of his arm. Might be his only realistic option at this point.
