CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - A University of Virginia men's lacrosse player was charged Monday with first-degree murder in the death of a women's lacrosse player. George Huguely, 22, of Chevy Chase, Md., was charged in the death of Yeardley Love, 22, of Cockeysville, Md., Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said. Both were seniors.
Longo said Love's roommate called police around 2:15 a.m. concerned that Love may have had an alcohol overdose, but police found her dead with obvious physical injuries to her body.
"It was quickly apparent to them that this young lady was the victim of something far worse," Longo said.

Things are a little different these days. People have less qualms about beating someone and its hard to know where the line sits.
A friend of mine got put into a coma just for talking to a girl when her ex-boyfriend went ballistic.
Some people seem to think they own a person when in a relationship.
UVA and death seem to be in the news much more than any other college.
Not implying anything. Just sorta strange.
Oops. I should say VA schools, rather than UVA.
I know. I can’t help myself. Every time I see a male with long hair, I start twitching and looking around for some scissors or clippers.

Amen. Right now the only things we know are 2 families have had their world turned upside down and a beautiful young woman is dead.
Biased remark. We paid that much inequivalent dollars twenty years ago and none of my kids, their classmates, their friends have murdered anyone. Most have gone on to good families and lives.
The bias against the wealthy is nothing more than envy.

I cannot imagine having a beautiful daughter murdered in her last weeks at college. It must be heartbreaking.
Good grief, that is ridiculous. You are going to indict kids who attend private schools because of one incident? No murderers in public schools i guess? and yes, my kids attend private schools in the DC area. There are good and bad eggs in every population, attributing it to where he went to school is playing to classwarfare sentiments.

you are confusing UVA with VA tech. VAtech had the mass killing on campus by the nut several years ago, then another asian grad student sawed off his girlfriend’s head in the Au Bon Pain during the dinner hour. i know lots of families with kids at VaTech and it is eerie how prevalent violent deaths have been.
Losing one via murder would be even worse than an accident or illness. Something bad happened here,,

I retired from the Marine Corps and still live around Lejeune.
My kids are twins (boy and girl). My son's hair length depends entirely upon what his current girlfriend likes (from a Marine Corps regulation to touching his ears). My daughter's hair has purple coloring in it. She goes to church and three bible studies per week. Oh yes, they are both in the top 5% of their high school class and are very active in sports. Both kids are pretty conservative.
My prayers go out to this young ladies family. What an awful tragedy.
It sounds as if she was beaten to death. But I am just speculating. I will follow this story closely. It has grabbed my attention on so many levels.
I cannot imagine living a life of jealousy and envy. I know people like that—hate to be around them. It sucks the air out of the room.
