NEW YORK (AP) -- Police investigating a failed car bomb left in Times Square have videotape of a possible suspect shedding clothing in an alley and putting it in a bag and found a substance that resembled fertilizer in the parked SUV, Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Sunday.
The surveillance video shows a white man in his 40s taking off one shirt, revealing another underneath.

So are some Islamic terrorists.
The NYPD has an office RIGHT in the middle of Times Square
Closer to the Donut shop next door.
They showed the vendor on TV . An older black guy who was way cool . He mocked all the reporters , told them all they will twist his words anyway . I loved it . Then at the end he said “if you see something , say something”. He said he was a vet also ..Good man for sure
LOL! That’s exactly who I was thinking of!!!!
NYPD has some serious cops working for them. You wished the FEDS had the talent NYPD has regarding terrorism.
There is something fishy about this incident:
“Police released a photograph of the SUV, a dark-colored Nissan Pathfinder, as it crossed an intersection at 6:28 p.m. Saturday. A vendor pointed the SUV out to an officer about two minutes later,”
In another article it says that the fire department showed up between 6pm and 6:30pm and it says that they heard popping sounds coming from the vehicle.
Now tell me, how many vendors in NY City notify a cop that a vehicle has been parked for 2 minutes?
Yaelle may have concreted where the Pathfinder came from:

This thread is about dealerships and cash for clunkers

The Cash for Clunkers trade-ins were supposed to be prominently defaced with paint that would mar the exterior supposedly to prevent resale in the used car market. But if it was a Clunker it could have been shipped to a scrap dealer in the Northeast. From the story:
[Investigators said that the vehicle’s Connecticut license plates didn’t match the make of the car. The license plate’s last known location was Kramer’s Used Auto Parts in Stratford, Conn., according to a law enforcement official familiar with the investigation. No one answered the phone there Sunday.]
The Clunker could have gone from the scrap dealer to this parts dealer even though the Clunker rules prohibit it.
Someone may have stolen the Pathfinder from Kramer’s along with a license plate from another vehicle in the yard. Or Kramer’s may have repainted the Pathfinder and been using it for deliveries, etc.
When someone stole it they couldn’t report it because it was obtained illegally.

I think Brad is onto something with respect to the vehicle being obtained illegally, and why the salvage yard in CT might not be cooperative. It’s possible that they should have had the vehicle, and/or that they resold it, illegally.
I work a couple of blocks away. Times square has extremely sophisticated surveillance equipment. Also a recruiting station. Always a heavy police presence - every day. This past week the swat cops and police dogs are all over Penn station and the subways. I find it hard to believe none of the cameras picked him up.
I assure you if the FBI wants info on the vehicle they will get it from the junk yard people one way or the other.
Who would have a keyring with 18-20 keys on it? Kramers: a ‘junkyard’, or a legitimate dealer?
Whoever stole the Pathfinder knows the Kramers’ people.
Yes, they will.
I just thank Yaelle for the proof of the junkyard dog that didn’t bark.
They have no idea if this is the guy or not, but since he is white they are going to play it. You know because no white man has even been a muslim terrorist, right? White people are only tea partiers and conservatives, except for the left wing moonbats of the MSM./SAR
This reminds me of when they railroaded that security guard, what was his name, I forget? Anyway they jumped right on that one too, until the evidence piled up so high they couldn’t ignore it. In this case forget about the Taliban taking credit, forget about Comedy Central, it just had to be a right wing white nut case.
I'm not sure if there was a “Don't Tread On Me” Bumper Sticker on the SUV though.
Another article said the hazard lights were left on and the motor was running. That would alert some people, especially a right wing vendor who knows what communist and muslim radicals are capable of.
so... show us the video please.
That’s a white dude in the ‘40s. Not a white dude in his 40’s.
Dealerships often have a key board on a wall with little hooks to hang the vehicle keys. A small dealership or a junkyard might have all the keys on one ring. The guy that does a lot of my mechanical work owns a junkyard, deals in scrap and used parts, and has people working for him that do paint and body work. He also buys and sells used vehicles.
Not to mention Persians, Albanians and various Muslim groups from the Transcaucasus region.
Hmm, it was smoking.
August, 2003: Ward Churchill Caught On Tape Advocating Terrorism [vs Fellow Americans]

Question from audience:
You mentioned a little bit ago, "Why did it take a bunch of Arabs to do what you all should have done a long time ago," that's my question.
Churchill: I'm gonna repeat that, tell me if I got that right: Why shouldn't we do something and how do you you move so they don't see you coming.
As to the first part, not a reason in the world that I could see. I can't find a single reason that you shouldn't in a principled way there may be some practical considerations, such as do you know how (laughter from audience)
you know, often these things are processes. It's not just an impulse. And certainly it's not just an event.
And the simple answer, although it probably should be more complicated, but I'm not being flip and giving the simple answer, is:
You carry the weapon. That's how they don't see it coming. You're the one...
They talk about "color blind or blind to your color." You said it yourself.
You don't send the Black Liberation Army into Wall Street to conduct an action.
You don't send the American Indian Movement into downtown Seattle to conduct an action.
Who do you send? You. Your beard shaved, your hair cut close, and wearing a banker's suit.
There's probably a whole lot more to it, you know that. But there's where you start. .."
