In April, the number of adults not affiliated with either major party increased by 1.6 percentage points, while the number identifying themselves as Republicans decreased 1.3 percentage points. This marks the lowest level for Republicans since July 2008. The number of Democrats remained relatively constant, compared to last month. Following the historic health care reform debate, the percentage of adults identifying themselves as Democrats is now at 36.0% and the number of Republicans at 31.6%, while 32.5% say they are not affiliated with either major party

I think the strip club flap hurt, short-term. Of course the media drove it for all it was worth.

This is probably due to the low opinion that voters have of Congress and government in general. People are sick of both parties. Many people have understood that being Republican and being Conservative are not always the same thing. McCain and the other RINOs have driven off many Conservatives. If the GOP returns to its Conservative principles, most of these disenchanted voters will return to the GOP as long as it remains Conservative.

okay just looked at the poll. Love the way Scott portrayed the lowest R since 2008. Look at Dem. Although higher, they have dropped more than R? Its crap. They were at 41 in 2008 now 36. R’s have been consistently around 31/32

Obama’s regime should have disuaded you as to who the true socialists are, and it ain’t the Pubs. As to the growth of the Independents, Dems should take no comfort in this poll, because the reason the Pubs’ numbers are dropping is because those who are way more fiscally conservative than they are, constitute the greatest part of the increase in Independents. In other words, to the right of the right, at least fiscally. And when it comes to voting in elections, they will vote for the Pubs, not the Dems, who they know are fiscally irresponible to the max. So, even though there are a lot more swinging to calling themselves Independents, the great majority of them will be voting Pub, and the Dems know it, as does the MSM. They will spin it differently, but we all know the truth.

I agree with your post to a point, but Republicans better not take conservative votes for granted. Do I think the Republican Party is as bad as the Democrats? No. Democrats are socialists (or worse), and many Republicans act like Democrats of twenty years ago. My tolerance for Republican “reaching across the aisle” is at an all time low, and I bet I’m not alone.

This could be self preservation. When they start rationing the healthcare, and get the death panels up and running I wouldn't want to have an R associated with my name.

Are you really that naïve to believe anything will change if the gop wins in novemember?
if anything it will probably get far worse since the gop will be forced to work w zero. If they don’t he will be seen as a sympathetic figure and easily win in 2012.

Obama’s regime should have disuaded you as to who the true socialists are, and it ain’t the Pubs.

I think voters are getting sick and tired of the Republicans' claims to be less Socialist, when it becomes increasingly apparent the Republican Party is taking for granted that that alone is enough.

While it might have taken a few decades longer to reach this point, we still would have arrived where we are, with a generation or two less aware of the change.

If the Republicans want to cease hemmoraging support, donations, and avowed members, they had better make a serious move to the Right, not just continue past practices of pandering to the conservatives until election day+1 and then reverting to their moderate form of progressivism/liberalism.

Now, especially now, people are aware of how long they have been deceived by such practices, and much of the electorate is not of a mind to put up with it.

One would wonder at the patriotism of those who would be content to win an election simply because their fecal content is lower than their opposition, rather than being the best person for the job and their country.

For those of you who are still Republicans: Wake the F up! The widespread disgust with the Democrats, the fact that the People are warming up to fire them, will help the Republican Party if, and only if, they actually do what needs to be done with their upcoming accidental majority.

The People hate the Republicans only a little bit less than they hate the Democrats. That is NOT a sound basis for governing the country.

Exactly. Anyone believes things will get any better should the gop get in in november is naïve and ignorant to reality.

The gop is socialism lite. The dems are communists so the gops socialism doesn’t look as bad.
