Energy: The administration has banned new offshore drilling until the Gulf oil spill is investigated. Was its heart in it anyway? It seems environmental concerns apply only to certain forms of energy.
No one pays much attention to the aquatic "dead zones" that have appeared off our shores at the mouths of our rivers due to agricultural runoff created by mandates for corn-based ethanol. Ethanol is green energy, good energy — never mind that such biofuels drive up food prices, increase hunger around the world and damage the environment in their own way.
The explosion that blew apart an oil rig off Louisiana's coast is far more dramatic and makes for better television. The resulting oil spill is a legitimate concern, as it threatens marine life and local economies. Our concern is that it will do more damage as a bludgeon that forever ends hopes of expanding domestic oil production.
President Obama on Friday announced the suspension of all plans for new offshore oil drilling until authorities learn what caused the explosion of the rig Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico. Recently he had declared to great fanfare that certain offshore areas would be open to drilling.

Yes, that WOULD work - provided it weighed more than the wellhead pressure of the well could lift, and provided it got a good seal against the seabed floor. BUT - how high up from the seabed floor, if any, is the leak? It might need to be a TALL dome!
5000 barrels, not gallons. That is 210,000 gallons a day. Before you tell people to stop freaking out maybe you should learn the facts. This is very serious to the people on the gulf coast.
Heh-n as a wireline engineer you are talking my language. From what I have read they were planing on plugging the well and coming back later to finish completions on the well. We recommend at a very minimum 24 hours for the cement to set up before running a cbl. My guess is they had not run one yet. if they did it might contain information as to the case of the indecent.

The suggestion of sabotage was open on Mark Levin”s discussion with the hydro petroleum engineer at the end of his show tonite. Makes sense to me given the fires and delays.

WASHINGTON—The Gulf of Mexico oil spill could be leaking at a rate of 25,000 barrels a day, five times the government’s current estimate, industry experts say. Basing their calculations on government data and standard industry measurement tools, the experts said the Gulf spill may already rival the historic 1969 Santa Barbara, Calif., and 1989 Exxon Valdez disasters.
Ian MacDonald, professor of oceanography at Florida State University who specializes in tracking ocean oil seeps from satellite imagery, said there may already be more than 9 million gallons of oil floating in the Gulf now, based on his estimate of a 25,000 barrel-a-day leak rate. That’s compared to 12 million gallons spilled in the Valdez accident. Interior Department officials said it may take 90 days to cap the leaking well. If the 25,000 barrels a day is accurate and it leaks for 90 days, that’s 2.25 million barrels or 94.5 million gallons. Mr. MacDonald and his colleagues at the Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science Department have worked jointly with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in the past on oil spill tracking, and have shared their estimates with NOAA scientists. He said the NOAA scientists didn’t dispute the calculations.
The economic damage will be bigger than any hurricane in Gulf History, might be worth more than BP and RIG combined. Maybe the leakage is increasing by the day up to its maximum of 100,000 barrel per day.
This whole oil rig thing smells to high heaven! There just seems to be too much “coincidence”; and I don’t believe in coincidence.
I think the reason it bothers me is that too many things were going on at the same time .. making this “coincidence” waaaaaaay too convenient.
These are the pieces of the puzzle that I put together.
1st - the dems are plotting to unleash upon America a cap and tax plan (but it’s not gaining in approval);
2nd - the dems want to do whatever they can to stop America from drilling their own oil (because that would create millions of jobs, spur the economy, and ensure energy independence for lots of years);
3rd - although Obama was allowing drilling (but not in the best areas), the oil industry was calling him on it;
4th - it just happened to be a day or so one side of “Earth Day”;
5th - to solve all those problems (”Never let a good crisis go to waste.”) - what could be better than a good oil spill - like maybe blowing up an oil rig ..?? Huh ..?? That would solve everything .. RIGHT ..??
Now, NO MORE OIL DRILLING; CAP AND TAX WILL BE EASY TO PASS; PEOPLE WERE PAYING ATTENTION BECAUSE OF EARTH DAY, and I just can’t believe for one minute that this was an “accident” or just a coincidence.
The real cap .. the President sent SWAT to guard all the oil rigs .. WHY WOULD HE DO THAT IF IT WAS AN “ACCIDENT”. But .. if the oil rig was blown up .. then they better inspect all the other oil wells to find out if they are ready to blow up too ..?? Huh ..??
The real big question I have is this: WHO BLEW IT UP ..??
And remember .. just a couple of days ago there was a thread where we were discussing the Weather Underground and their statements about 25,000,000 being a casuality risk they were willing to take .. Hmmmmm ..?? Did they believe killing over 100 on the oil rig was acceptable in order to accomplish their goal ..??
Interestingly .. there is a 6th factor: Who do the dems hate almost as much as Bush - Halliburton! It turns out Halliburton is somehow involved in the construction of the oil rig. Hmmmm ..?? Coincidence ..?? I don’t think so.

I don’t think this was ignored by the Administration for 8 days. The Coast Guard was on duty immediately as part of the rescue effort for the missing 11 men. The next day the Dept of Interior sent down upper level management personnel to keep track of the problem, and it was several days before they realized or were informed by BP the valve was not stopping the problem. As of yesterday there were over 1,000 people working on the problem including a lot from government.

While we are being creative about conspiracies. How about this one. Halliburton rigs the the rig to blow up, so that Obama and the enviros will stop US drilling, thereby increasing business for Halliburton overseas. Perhaps someone with more knowledge of Halliburon’s activities can flesh out this fantasy.
Including "a team" of lawyers from the Justice Department.
