FL-Sen. 2010: Crist Makes Break With GOP (RINO attacks Tea Party, conservatives)
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 2010-04-30 | Valerie Bauerlein & Peter Wallsten

Posted on 04/30/2010 10:26:02 AM PDT by rabscuttle385

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Florida Gov. Charlie Crist formally launched his bid for a U.S. Senate seat as an independent candidate Thursday evening, abandoning the Republican primary and casting himself as the outsider in a "broken" political system.

Appearing before hundreds of supporters at a waterfront park in his hometown, Mr. Crist said that voters "want someone who is more concerned with standing up for them than standing up for special interest groups or party."

"People have a right to choose," he said in his brief remarks, which were carried live on national cable television. Then, appearing to take aim both at party leaders and the GOP's tea party movement that had criticized him as too liberal, Mr. Crist added: "It's your decision. It's not one club's decision, or another's. Or a club within a club."

Mr. Crist's decision transforms one of the most closely watched U.S. Senate races, and sets up a prominent test of how the GOP remakes itself following major losses over the past four years. The party must determine whether it can retake the majority by nominating candidates with purely conservative views, or whether it should make room for centrists like Mr. Crist, who was a top target of conservative activists for his support of President Barack Obama's economic stimulus plan.

Crist isnt standing up for anyone but himself.

Gee wiz, Mr. Crist... I didn't realize that supporting and defending the Constitution is considered “Special Interest".

CRIST = LOOSER

Hey dude. Wise Up! If you have ever used those two ears, it's not about which party you belong to. It IS about your beliefs, which you obviously don't share with your voters. And don't label Tea Parties as a political arm of anyone! Better dust off you resume to work elsewhere. Youre political future is finished.

The RNC has had a couple of big mistakes in handing out money this past year.

First new York—now Crist.

The Tea Pary Movement is not owned by any political party so I take offense at this remark. The WSJ should know better, shame on them!

Well, once Crist loses, he can go back to what he once was good at. Men. LOL.

“The rumors about Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and the Green Iguana just wouldn’t go away. The story goes that the Florida governor frequented the Green Iguana, a bar in Tampa, back in the early 1990s when he was just starting his political career. He was less careful back then, people say, and during his partying at the Green Iguana, he was openly gay.

When I got Rick Calderoni, the bar’s well-known owner, on the phone, I expected him to stonewall me about it.

He didn’t.

Calderoni, who is gay, confirmed that Crist came into his bar quite often and that the two of them became friends.

Getting to the point, I asked him if he knew Crist to be gay.

“Yes,” he answered bluntly. “I just wish he would come out and admit it. That would be a great thing if he did.”

I don’t know if I am the only one that thinks this way or not, but I suspect if Crist should happen to pull off a surprise win he will be welcomed back in the Republican fold with open arms. In fact I would be very surprised if there is not a big fight between the Republican and Democrats to claim him. Political bribes up the yazoo.

“he’s so absorbed into himself he really cannot see how stupid he looks.”

It really is stunning, pathetic and somewhat sad. What a pathetic man.

How can the party “make room for centrists like Mr. Crist” when the bastard leaves the party if it looks like he’d lose the primary?!

I think Crist is an Arlen Specter who is trying to run as a democrat or at least in harmony w the dems.

The next steps in the Crist drama:

a. since he’s already reached out to the democrats, they’ll approach Meek about dropping out.

b. Crist, like Liebermann, will announce that he will “caucus” with the democrats.

c. Meek’s funding will dry up and he’ll be forced to give it up.

Crist will be proven not to be the conservative he tried to pretend to be.

Tan Boy tried to contact the White House yesterday before announcing .....but the WH ignored him, lol !!

Obama used him like the fool over the Stimulus !!

Tan Boy really thought he had a chance to be McCain’s VP ..and once VP he could step right into the WH ...that is how highly he thinks of himself !! This Senate seat was Crist’s chance at getting out of Florida and on to the road for the WH.

IF IF IF Florida has a major hurricane this summer Crist will never be able to show his face in the USA again !! Crist has set Florida up to foot the bill for BILLIONS in hurricane losses ...he chased all the insurers out of the state !!

TAN BOY is a CLUELESS IN FLORIDA like THE MUSLIM is CLUELESS in the White House !!

I think he tried to contact Rahm for an Ambassadorship.

He wants to be rewarded for playing the part of the spolier.

He so wants Rubio to lose.
