Feds tell judge she's misreading militia case
AP ^ | 04/29/2010 | ED WHITE

Federal prosecutors trying to keep nine militia members in jail said Thursday that they don't need to show there was imminent danger when they charged them with plotting war against the government.

In a court filing, prosecutors responded to a judge's concern that they haven't revealed a specific strategy against the U.S. by nine members of the Michigan-based Hutaree militia.

Whether these guys committed sedition or not, there seems little doubt they committed idiocy.

The feds picked this group especially because of their looks and lifestyle.

These folks were directly out of central casting for
“My Big Redneck Militia Wedding”.

They figured if they could bust them, then they could paint more mainstream folks with the same brush, and stifle any dissent or rebellion to authoritarian federal policies.

Sounds like the Feds can match them for idiocy for idiocy in this case.

Unfortunately idiocy is not a crime, otherwise we could haul off most of DC in irons.

“Unfortunately idiocy is not a crime, otherwise we could haul off most of DC in irons.”

Why bother hauling them off? Just build a wal and string some razor wire around all of DC!

I doubt the feds really care whether this group walks or not. They knew from the beginning that they were no real threat. The feds wanted the photo-op and the perp walk to play into the whole miltia=tea party narrative, they got it. When this group goes free it will reported as a small blurb on page A-18.

In a free country its ok to be an idiot as long as you don’t hurt someone.

In a free country its NOT ok to lock idiots up who have not hurt anyone.

As much as I don’t care for these Militia screwheads, there is a lot of mischief potential in an accusation of sedition. It should be hard to bring a case.

Judge: “I want some evidence that they’ve done anything other than talk.”
Feds: “But we have tapes! ...true we didn’t listen to them all, but we have them.”
Judge: “I want some reason that bail should be denied.”
Feds: “They’re dangerous... see this report by the Department of Homeland Security on Right-Wing Extremists?”
Judge: “...this was produced by one of the agencies involved in the crackdown, wasn’t it?”
Feds: “So what!?”
Judge: “You’re forgetting that jurisprudence, in this country, presumes innocence until guilt is proven.”
Feds: “We don’t care, we’re assuming that they’re guilty until they prove that they’re not.”

Why doesn’t the judge slap the feds down with a ‘contempt of court’ charge?

“It is not permitted to the most equitable of men to be a judge in his own cause.” — Blaise Pascal
