Ohio businessman Jim Renacci, whom national Republican officials prefer as their nominee against Democrat John Boccieri in the Canton-area 16th district, was the source for most of the money his campaign raised in the final three months of 2009.

In a filing to the Federal Election Commission on Thursday, Renacci said that he had loaned his campaign $120,000, or nearly 60 percent of the $211,000 he raised overall. Renacci made the loan on Dec. 31, the last day of the reporting period.

Renacci raised about $79,000 from individual donors and another $11,500 from political committees, including $5,000 from the centrist Republican Main Street Partnership and $2,500 from the leadership political action committee of Minority Whip Eric Cantor (Va.)

Renacci's campaign spent $57,000 last quarter, mostly on campaign consulting fees. He raised $415,000 for his campaign through the end of 2009 and began the year with $356,000 cash-on-hand.

Cantor and other GOP officials are promoting Renacci, who will be opposed in the May primary by Matt Miller, a former county commissioner who ran competitive but losing campaigns in the 2006 and 2008 GOP primaries, and H. Doyle Smith, a political unknown.

Boccieri is seeking a second term in Ohio's 16th, which takes in all of Canton and some territory to the west and north of that city.

All active candidates must file updated campaign finance reports by Sunday.

CQ Politics at the moment rates the Ohio 16 race as Likely Democratic.

Boehner is a card board cutout actor playing the role of token opposition. He and GOP leadership are worst than RINOs, the are enablers of our Republic’s destruction at the hands of Soros funded Commies!

Don’t vote for the Rino. It’s worse for the country than electing the Democrat as it makes our country a one party state and negates elections.
