April 29, 2010 Texas Gov: Arizona Immigration Law 'Not Right' for Texas Associated Press Gov. Rick Perry said in a statement: "I have concerns with portions of the law passed in Arizona and believe it would not be the right direction for Texas."
AUSTIN, Texas -- Arizona's tough new illegal immigration enforcement law would not be right for Texas, Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday, upholding the state's long-held tradition of rejecting harsh anti-immigrant policies.
The Arizona law will require local and state law enforcement officers to question people about their immigration status if there's reason to suspect they're in the country illegally, making it a crime for them to lack registration documents. The law also makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally.
"I fully recognize and support a state's right and obligation to protect its citizens, but I have concerns with portions of the law passed in Arizona and believe it would not be the right direction for Texas," Perry said in a written statement.

Someone please tell my why this is the best we can do out of the entire population of Texas?
Where does Kinky stand on the issue of the Mexican invasion?
Go ahead, Mess with Texas.
He is such a totally hard left lib loon, he probably wants the border patrol disbanded.
Perry was a democrat until Reagan.
He switched to get the General Land Office job.
Understood.
It’s actually written by the AP...
I love it. People voted for Perry knowing he was a rino and now they complain when he acts like a rino. And you wonder why things don’t change. I no longer blame the government. I blame the people who vote them into office. You made your bed Texas. Enjoy Governor Gardasil.
It’s the system. By the time is got to vote, he was the only choice.
We’ve been ‘enjoying’ Goodhair for twenty years, from General Land Office to Lieutenant Gov and now Gov for ten years.
Problem is, this rat out of Houston, White, is a little too close in the polls.
Of course we’ll pull the lever for Perry. But you’d bitch about him if you lived here, too.
That’s mean, I made a mistake voting for Perry(twice). It’s like Bush supporters and Perry supporters have now awoken from a stupor and have said, “No more.”
Maybe we need a one-term Bill White as governor of Texas to wake everybody up.
No he wasn’t the only choice. People listened to the GOP hacks and got sold a bill of goods yet again. You want to see real bipartisanship? Put an outside candidate in the running and you’ll see exactly what happened. The right and left will come together and shut that person down. And people bought it. Once again, this is why nothing changes.
Yes unfortunately. It wasn’t for lack of trying however.
I’m done fighting. You want to know what the truth is? The problem is us. We piss and moan about the government yet we keep putting them back in over and over. We vote for the lesser of two evils. Government will do what government does, grow and centralize power. As the last check in the system, WE failed. And as long as people buy into the lie that it has to be either republican or dem, we are screwed. Wake up people, they are playing you.
Ah, I see, Medina supporter.
Or.... do a write-in on the ballot. I just find it hard to believe.....in all of the State of Texas... we don't have one true conservative who can run for this office.
Yes I am. Now that I admit it freely, watch free speech in action.
Who I’d really love is Susan Combs. She is the real deal.
Met her a few years ago, and she is a straight up, no-BS gal who gains for Texas in every office she’s held.
