Election 2010: A race, not a breeze, for the U.S. Senate (Oregon)

For the past 14 years, the re-election of U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden has been the closest thing to a sure bet in Oregon politics. The popular senator is back on the ballot this year, and while he's still an overwhelming favorite to win another term, Republican voters have a chance to nominate a serious challenger, Lewis & Clark law professor Jim Huffman.

Under normal circumstances, Wyden would be a shoo-in over Huffman. But 2010 does not look to be a normal election year. IMHO, there is a real chance that Oregon may elect a conservative to the U.S. Senate for the first time since 1938.

Huffman looks like a good candidate based on his website. Anybody know if he is a legitimate conservative. It would truly be a miracle if Wyden lost. This is Oregon we're talking about.

Beating Wyden would be a miracle in the People’s Republic on Oregon!

Rufus Holman (1939-45) was a Paleo and anti-Semite who inserted pro-Nazi propaganda into the Congressional record, but Guy Cordon (1944-55) was more a mainstream Conservative. The primary in ‘44 between Holman and liberal Wayne Morse wasn’t much to cheer about, but Cordon and a lot of Conservatives endorsed Morse for obvious reasons.

You’re right, I completely forgot about that. Whoops, I stand corrected! I keep thinking that Guy Cordon was an Eisenhower establishment type.

I hope. Even an ardent 0bama voter nearby got outraged when I told her about 0bamacare. She’s been doing some reading since then, too.

But hardcore leftists have very closed minds generally. It’s the middle of the road liberal/lites who may be able to take out the IV.

I took a gander at Blue Oregon, and they seem to be up in arms about Huffman, saying that he’s a right-wing extremist.

That convinces me that he’s a good man, and worth supporting.

Huffman is a truely brilliant speaker and will give Wyden spastic fits if they ever debate.

Watch the Oregon 1st district against David Wu also.
We have two candiates for that slot who either could beat Wu.
