Texas lawmakers to push for Arizona-type immigration law
KENS 5 ^ | April 28, 2010 | Texas lawmakers to push for Arizona-type immigration law

The new Arizona law cracking down on illegal immigration has sparked a national uproar. Now Texas lawmakers say they will introduce a similar bill here when the Texas Legislature convenes in January.

Signed into law last week, the sweeping and controversial Arizona immigration bill authorizes police to stop suspected illegal immigrants and demand proof of citizenship.

As protesters take to the streets opposing Arizona's immigration bill, Texas Republican Lawmakers Representative Leo Berman of Tyler and Representative Debbie Riddle of Tomball say they will introduce similar legislation.

'It's a common sense law. The law in Arizona is a common sense law. What they did in Arizona simply replicates federal law and ours will be very similar to that. My number one priority as an elected official is the that safety and security of Texas is well established. The Legislation and Governor of Arizona seem to understand their responsibility and their number one priority. I wish the White House felt the same," said Riddle.

"I never thought it would come to a point in the United States of America, just walking down the street you'd have to prove you're a citizen. I thought that was Nazi Germany. I don't think anything like this could ever get passed in Texas," said Democratic State Senator Leticia Van De Putte of San Antonio.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn says the federal government needs to step up with comprehensive immigration reform.

"This is a federal government responsibility. I don't think it's good idea to have a patchwork of different state laws along the border where the rules are different depending on which state," said Cornyn.

Tomorrow LULAC will announce an economic boycott of the state of Arizona until the law is repealed or declared unconstitutional.

What the Hell is Cornyn yapping about? There are already immigration rules in place. We don’t need more. Enforce them!

I agree with him - They all should pass tough and similar laws.

Remember how the tea party movement was condemned because a couple of their children carried signs about “protecting their future”? In Dallas, there is a MEGA MARCH planned for Saturday in support of illegals and against the AZ law. They are blatantly using an eleven year old little baby faced boy as both the “frightened” face and “frightened” Voice of their protest. Wonder if the liberals will speak up against it?

John Cornyn is a RINO. We need to replace him.

You may have to take a number; there is a growing number of people who want him to pucker-up and smooch their bums.

"U.S. Senator John Cornyn says the federal government needs to step up with comprehensive immigration reform. "

Cornyn is getting senile. He needs to be challenged- First, his endorsement of Arlen Spectre, then within a week his endorsement of Crist, now he wants amnesty? Looks like he's batting a hundred on his endorsements of Demmacrats!

Why did they wait so long? Sometimes I think Texas is done for. The illegals here are bold, arrogant and have a huge sense of entitlement.

January? Why not just call for a special session?

Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on with Cornyn. Also, I fully expect for Kay to “break it off” in the good citizens of Texas on her way out the door. You know, “ hell have no fury ~”.
