THE VILLAGES Karl Rove, chief political strategist for former President George W. Bush, today questioned a controversial new Arizona law designed to cut down on illegal immigration by making it a crime to not produce proof of citizenship when a law enforcement officer demands it.
Rove, speaking to a crowd of about 500 at the mammoth senior community as part of a national book tour, said that while the law is understandable, it does present difficulties. The law has become the nations toughest anti-immigration measure.
I think there is going to be some constitutional problems with the bill, he said to the standing-room-only crowd at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center. I wished they hadnt passed it, in a way.

STFU, Karl.
“He is right in that there will be Constitutional arguments only in the sense that the national borders are a federal matter, not state.”
The AZ border with Mexico is indeed a national border, but it is also a state border... It’s not unprecedented for states to police their borders. Don’t 18 wheelers have to pull over often when you cross state lines?
Here we go ...
Well, then they'll probably all have to head down to the police station and be turned over to ICE. At that point, it's up to them to prove they are US citizens or they get deported. That might be fun to watch! With good luck, a few dozen of these leftists would not be able to locate their birth certificate or SSN card and get deported to Guadalajara.
Karl rove is one of the reasons we have obama.
Rove, still an unabashed BIG-GOVERNMENT, AMNESTY-PUSHING LIAR.
This makes perfect sense when you factor in Ramos and Compean, very heavy drug money, and heavily paid Mexican citizen lawyers, under the Bush DOJ.
Rubio is the Spanish word for blond. Therefore, we have a new name for him or whatever.
The democrats and rinos are fighting over the new chocolate voters. It is all about the pandering.
I’ve always thought he was on Bush’s/Repub’s side ...
Won't be arrested unless they have committed a crime. That is the basis for this law, to catch the worst of the illegals. The murderers. The druggies. The job-crushers. Time for those illegals to leave. Now.
No knowledge, just "iffing".
.
I subscribe to WSJ and their editorials always favor so called immigration reform. The Rinos paid for that stance in 2008. They will do so this year and 2012.
They sure get mad when we get off the plantation.
Yep.
“Seriously, if a cop asked you today to prove youre a citizen, what document would you show to convince him?”
The cop’s going to run your license number before he gets out of his car. He’s going to know your name, your age, any previous violations, your home address, if you have a concealed carry permit, any outstanding warrants, if you are insured etc.
Um, no. How about a groups of men loitering in the morning in public locations known for ILLEGAL ALIENS soliciting work cheaper than our own citizens?
How about boracho in public and loitering?
I think there is going to be some constitutional problems with the bill, he said
You dasn’t say, rilly?
that was from “The Hill”.
not a trustworthy source.
Keep in mind the left has to convince Crist to stay in the race and Crist has to formally decide on friday.
Sorry, that was his best quote and I meant to agree.

These are modern police forces that respect the rights of people in their communities, Rove said. Theyre going to do it on the basis of reasonable suspicion that these people are here illegally, like theyre driving a car with a Mexican license plate or they cant speak English or they dont have a drivers license.
