THE VILLAGES – Karl Rove, chief political strategist for former President George W. Bush, today questioned a controversial new Arizona law designed to cut down on illegal immigration by making it a crime to not produce proof of citizenship when a law enforcement officer demands it.
Rove, speaking to a crowd of about 500 at the mammoth senior community as part of a national book tour, said that while the law is understandable, it does present difficulties. The law has become the nation’s toughest anti-immigration measure.
“I think there is going to be some constitutional problems with the bill,” he said to the standing-room-only crowd at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center. “I wished they hadn’t passed it, in a way.”

yeah ... well towards the end I didn’t care for his policies any more ... I still can’t believe that in this great country all we could come up with was McCain and Obama ....

Now the perp is given a ticket and sent on his way. But what if an Hispanic citizen without anything to prove he’s a citizen is asked by the cop “Are you a citizen?”
The guys says “Yeah, I am.”
The cop says “Prove it.” The guy can’t prove it. So he’s arrested and turned over to ICE. After going to jail and all the hassle his sister brings his birth certificate.
I think this kind of scenario is what worries some conservative politicians. As for the liberals, they’re against any law that will stop “voters” from coming across that border.
He can’t be arrested for not having insurance. He can be given a ticket. The point is this guy is a citizen but can’t prove it. There are many citizens who don’t have anything in their pocket proving they belong here.
Lots of illegals have all kinds of forged docs...driver’s license, ss card, state i.d.
I’m more concerned about legal citizens being hassled while the illegals produce a phony doc and are sent on their way. And you KNOW they’re all going to be told to make sure they have something proving they’re citizens. Hell, I’m sure CNN and MSNBC and Calderon will make sure they know what they need.
But a real citizen isn’t worried about it until he’s “investigated” by the cops and has to prove his citizenship.
And that brings up another problem. What is the cop going to do when the guy says “My birth certificate is in my dresser drawer at home.” Is the cop going to following him home to see it? Or will he inform the guy to bring it by the station later that afternoon?
Georgia must have gotten tough. When I moved there in 2004 I turned in my Texas license and got a Georgia license. No problem.

Now that Obama has done what the Chinese advised against (It most unwise to poke sharp in eye of sleeping tiger.), and with the rise of talk radio and Internet sources such as Free Republic, the dumbing down of America is being cured.
I’d suggest that a Sarah palin or Jan Brewer would easily manage being President and keep the goobers in the gooberment in teh bounds defined in the Constitution.
America has a government created by what was arguably the greatest gathering political expertise in history. Their product can be operated by an educated citizen.
Honestly, many a FReeper could handle the duties of the White House with far fewer Constitutional violations than the Bamster and his Gang of Thieves.

One of W and Rove’s incorrect assumptions was that kissin up to the Mexicans would gain their vote. Rove may beleive it, but facts say different. Rove’s right on some things and like evry other human he’s wrong on some things.

No surprise here. Karl Rove has been a member of the Treason Lobby for years. He was La Raza’s Man of the Year at one of their meetings.
Bush and Rove were of one mind about pandering to illegal aliens. Bush’s speeches before he was elected were full of open borders rubbish.
The law doesn't give the cops the right to question anyone's citizenship without probable cause. That cause could be no license, no insurance, no English etc. They have to have a good reason. Even then the suspect would not have to produce papers, he would probably be held over for investigation. Have you ever been stopped without your driver's license? They will fine the crap out of you if you don't have it. All legal residents have to produce a green card if stopped for traffic violations, they always have had to.
The law does nothing that federal law doesn't already do, the difference is it is now enacted at the state level. Anyone against this law is against the rule of law in this country. All arguments against this law are frivolous and false.
The frickin' GOP people who are railing against this law have always been against enforcement of the existing fed laws as well and they have always been for amnesty.
Arizona wants the law, Arizona has the law. Period.
Karl Rove should go home and count his book money.

What you’re talking about is a “legal” immigrant being stopped and questioned THEN being able to prove he’s legal by showing a green card. What I’m talking about is an Hispanic-American citizen, born and raised in AZ, being questioned and NOT being able to prove citizenship on the spot. And you have to remember where this is going to be taking place most of the residents, legal and illegal, are Hispanic.
I’m all for cracking down on illegal immigration. The illegals will be caught if they don’t have the green card. But I can see where legal citizens may be put through a bunch of crap before being able to prove citizenship.
