THE VILLAGES Karl Rove, chief political strategist for former President George W. Bush, today questioned a controversial new Arizona law designed to cut down on illegal immigration by making it a crime to not produce proof of citizenship when a law enforcement officer demands it.
Rove, speaking to a crowd of about 500 at the mammoth senior community as part of a national book tour, said that while the law is understandable, it does present difficulties. The law has become the nations toughest anti-immigration measure.
I think there is going to be some constitutional problems with the bill, he said to the standing-room-only crowd at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center. I wished they hadnt passed it, in a way.

Thanks, Lindsey.

Senate Panel Approves Holder Nomination For AG
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said he supports Holders view that the country needs to interrogate terrorism suspects based on American values.
I am confident this new attorney general will have a balanced approach and I look forward to working with him. I know hes made mistakes and so have I, Graham said.

USC to get new business building
Funds will come from leasing current building to Department of Justice
An estimated 250 Justice Department employees working in different locations near Washington, D.C., will be relocated to Columbia over an unspecified period.
Graham said U.S. taxpayers will save $42 million by having Justice Department employees working in South Carolina, which has lower costs than Washington.
It was almost too good to be true, Graham said of the plan. But it proved to be true.
Graham, a Republican, praised U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Deputy Attorney General David Ogden, both of whom were appointed by President Obama, a Democrat.
I cant thank Eric Holder and David Ogden enough, Graham said, adding they offered their support for a leasing plan that was initiated during the administration of George W. Bush.
“Now, per your example, what about the citizen who doesnt own a home, no insurance, etc.”
Arrest him for not having auto insurance...
Karl, what is so difficult to understand?
If they catch one middle Eastern man between the age of 18-30 that is carrying a device with the intention of detonating in the US, I say it’s a good thing.
What difference is this law, that is finally being enforced, any different than all of us who are subject to physical searches every time we fly to visit families?
“Seriously, if a cop asked you today to prove youre a citizen, what document would you show to convince him?
I would show my Georgia Driver’s License. To obtain this last year, I had to show my certified birth certificate, marriage licenses from first and second marriage and divorce decree. It was reluctantly given and I was advised I would need a certified divorce degree to renew it.
If I have to jump through hoops I have NO SYMPATHY for illegals or elected politicians.
Whenever Bush did something that enraged the conservative base, you could be certain Rove was pulling the strings. Whatever the ultimate Bush legacy may be, he can thank Rove for the fact that it will never be what it could have been without Rove’s big government/big spending statist influence.
Rove is taking a political position, not a legal or moral one.
Some amnesty advocate protesting the law because it would in his assertion target Mexicans, beef up border surveilance and security, which apparently would NOT target Mexicans.
“red Rove(r), red Rove(r), wants the illegals to come over.”
“Most illegals have a drivers license.”
.
No, very few do. Mostly those that have been put up to it by an employer.
Graham is a pile!
.
Nope, you get pulled over for a traffic violation, you have to have a drivers license. You give the officer your license, he checks it to make sure it's legal (i.e. with the issuing state). If it's legal, you get your ticket for the original violation. If it's not legal, you get taken in for producing a falsified or stolen document. When you get to jail you are asked about your legal status. Anything you say will checked and will determin if you are just taken to court for producing a false document or if you will be taken to court for false documents and deported.
Graham is a butt-licker, figuratively(?).
Dana Perino and Rove are pretty close friends IRL...I’m not surprised.
Interesting. I am not good at math, but that seems like a very high number of illegals... and I am NOT doubting you.

I don’t buy the “12 million” number thrown around for the last 6 years. I think it’s at least 10% of 300 million since 2004, given Hispanics are pandered to by big corporations.
Go to Los Angeles on May 5th. Contrary to every other day, the streets will be EMPTY.
aww, I think he’s kind of cute-—especially in person. This is proving a little difficult for me, as I like him very much personally. But I disagree with him here.
Ping!
Imagine this...five thousand leftists arrive in Arizona over the weekend and every time a cop asks who they are...the response is Juan Lopez...with no ID on them. In fact, folks could walk up to the cops and insist they are illegal...and crush the states law enforcement system easily.”
Imagine Sheriff Joe calling in an order for 5,000 green baloney sandwiches, and lots of pink undies.
;-)
PS Lying to an officer is a crime. Imagine Sheriff Joe making Arizona a pile of bucks off the 5,000 Libtards you mentioned.
;-) ;-) ;-)
“Ive always thought he was on Bushs/Repubs side ...”
He was.
Alas, El Presidente Jorge Booosh was for Messico and open borders.
