The Revolution Will Be Commercialized
New York Magazine ^ | Apr 25 2010 | Gabriel Sherman

On the morning of July 3, 2009, a national holiday, Sarah Palin placed a call to her communications director and told her that she wanted to hold a press conference at her Wasilla, Alaska, home. She wouldn’t disclose the topic. For Palin, the months since Election Day had been a letdown even bigger than the loss to Barack Obama and Joe Biden. Being governor was drudgery. “Her life was terrible,” one adviser says. “She was never home, her [Juneau] office was four hours from her house. You gotta drive an hour from Wasilla to Anchorage. And she was going broke.” Her sky-high approval ratings in Alaska—which had topped 80 percent before John McCain picked her—had withered to the low fifties. She faced a hostile legislature, a barrage of ethics complaints, and frothing local bloggers who reveled in her misfortune. All this for a salary of only $125,000? The worst was that she had racked up $500,000 in legal bills to fend off the trooper scandal and other investigations. She needed money and worried about it constantly. “You have to keep in mind,” Bill McAllister, her then–press secretary, told me, “she and Todd were middle class. They’re rich now, but not then.”

They’re scared to death of her, because they know she runs circles around them. Either she takes over the GOP and kicks them all out, or she starts her own party.

^^^
You betcha!

Right! And she’s got 2 years to do it. If she hasn’t reformed and taken control of the GOP by next year, it will be time to start a new party, the Palin Party.

For me, in my opinion. It is simple. After November 2008, She lost control of the script, she lost control of her life, her destiny and her financial well being. They were trying to take her out. She was being reduced to a scandal ridden governor and fodder for sex crazed tabloids. They were trying to destroy her. They are still trying. But she now has control of her destiny.

I always wondered what would have been. I think millions of Americans have. If Lee Harvey Oswald would have missed and President Kennedy would have survived. That was different because they killed him. Although I fear there are leftists sick enough to go after Palin.

But I heard it said that when JFK was shot he lost his chance to define himself in the history books. He lost his pen. And thousands of others grabbed their own pens and made millions off of his demise.

Palin dodged a different kind of bullet. Many people here on Free Republic and in this country don’t understand that. I don’t think she minds going down, she has more courage than most people believe. But she doesn’t want to go down in vain for nothing. So she followed an Esther reasoning “If I perish, I perish”. She knows there is danger. She is walking through the fire and carried the burden with uncommon zeal. But she really loves America.

Many of us are willing to join her and fight with her every single step of the way. In so many ways 2012 feels like an impossible dream. As does the future of our country sometimes. But we have to do this one day at a time, one week at a time, one month at a time. We have to get through the 2010 election first.

Lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. If we do the right thing today. tomorrow will take care of itself.

That’s exactly why I posted this article. We don’t have to agree with the tone of the author to pick out the facts that are important here. The fact that the old Republican Guard is so scared of her speaks louder than any snark on the part of the author.
