Ron Klein faces tough re-election challenge (Allan West's opponent is in serious trouble!)
Sun- SentialTimes ^ | Sunday April 25 ,2010 | Anthony Man

Ron Klein was elected to Congress on the crest of an anti-incumbent wave that washed away dozens of congressmen and gave Democrats control of the House of Representatives.

Now, with Democrats' popularity in the cellar, unemployment at a 40-year high and voters angry, Klein is working overtime to make sure voters don't send him to the unemployment line in November.

With qualifying week about to begin for candidates for judicial, U.S. Senate and U.S. House seats, no South Florida incumbent in Congress faces a tougher challenge than Klein.

For the second consecutive election, he faces Republican Allen West, a retired lieutenant colonel who has parlayed his charismatic speaking style into frequent appearances on Fox News, an endorsement from Sarah Palin and a devoted following among supporters of the tea party movement.

Klein's supporters insist they aren't panicked. But they clearly are much more concerned than they were in 2008, when West ran up a startling 45.3 percent of the vote, even though he started his campaign late, had little money and was virtually ignored by the Republican Party.

"The wake-up call has been happening. It's not Chicken Little. It's not the sky has been falling. It's been reality. We need to wake up and put our boxing gloves on," said Fort Lauderdale resident Michael Albetta, president of the Florida Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Democratic Caucus.

But both sides agree that if there's one South Florida member of Congress who could lose, it's Klein.

The 22nd Congressional District, most of which hugs the coast in Broward and Palm Beach counties, is very competitive. With 37.1 percent of the registered voters, Democrats hold a miniscule advantage over the Republicans' 36.9 percent. At 26 percent, the concentration of independents is one of the highest in the state.

Col. West is a good man.

I only hope people don't judge all blacks as "the Messiah." I don't want to see "the Messiah's" reign of error and terror hurt the political scene for more competent and right thinking black people.

I don’t think you have to worry.

Tea party voters and their kind are seeing way beyond race these days.

By which I mean, race is only a factor to people like Sharpton, the Klan and the Democratic Pary.
