Sounds more like one of the common “sweet sixteen” (or is it “sweet twelve?” I can’t remember which age the Mexicans celebrate as the age their girls become “women”) parties

Fifteen is the Mexican coming-of-age. It is known as the "quinceanera". I have this story about one:

A year ago I had the chance to ride in one of those obnoxiously stupid party-limos. (A white Hummer. A tackier vehicle I have never seen.)

I sat in the front and talked to the driver. He had just completed a "quinceanera" job. He said the girl was very nice and a bit shy. And, not realizing that he has a small video camera to let him communicate with the back she and her cousin were enjoying the event. She was definately graduated to "woman" and perhaps even "mother to be" by the end of the celebration.

I'm sure this was just one experience of one limo driver and in no way reflects on what typically goes on in the back of 27 foot long stretch limos, or at "quinceanera" celebrations. Really.

In my old hometown of Medford, Oregon, quincieras are quite popular...usually someone gets stabbed.
