A very serious situation is unfolding today as all the necessary ingredients are coming together for a destructive tornado outbreak.
You can follow the latest news and developments throughout the day concerning this tornado outbreak on weather.com's News and Development's page.
Several tornadoes are likely across the states of Mississippi and Alabama. Some of these tornadoes will be long-tracking, large tornadoes.
It's just not MS and AL however, adjacent states including Louisiana, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee will also be under the gun for powerful tornadoes, large hail and destructive winds.
Some cities in the target zone today include Lexington (KY), Bowling Green (KY), Nashville (TN), Memphis (TN), Jackson (TN), Birmingham (AL), Tuscaloosa (AL), Jackson (MS), Meridian (MS), Tupelo (MS), Pine Bluff (AR) and Little Rock (AR).

Storm Watch: The severe weather set-up
The Weather Channel and weather.com will providing continuing coverage of this dangerous day of weather.
Looks like that storm formation is going to be barreling into Jacksonville tomorrow.
Wow. This IS serious.
Where are you located?
BTW, why is a Mississippi tornado like a Arkansas divorse?
Either case, you are going to lose the double-wide!
I was stunned ab out 5 min. ago to hear Dr. Forbes at the WC express fear that Yazoo City had just been struck...he was just looking at the radar indicators...no on the ground info. He was very serious
Agreed, I was watching it. The purple on the radar wasn’t hail, it was building debris. Yazoo City, population 14,500
He saw a debris ball on the radar.
Reports coming in on the ground-Church destroyed 1 mile S of Yazoo city, buildings leveled on Highway 16.
Bump
This has been routine practice for anything tornado-related, no matter how bad, for years.
I don’t understand why it was removed from “Breaking” since it such an important issue.
Tornado Warning issued for Wilcox Co, AL

Well, a lot of people were abusing breaking by putting every tornado watch box or warning in breaking news.
It’s difficult to convey the difference between a potentially historic outbreak like today and a sort of routine Spring day with some possible tornadoes.
But if you note the tornadoes are Muslim, Gay, or Mexican, you might have a chance to keep a thread like this in “breaking.”
