Obama broadens search for Supreme Court nominee
The Los Angeles Times ^ | April 22, 2010

President Obama cast a wider net Wednesday in his search for a Supreme Court nominee, adding a federal judge from Chicago to his working list and soliciting suggestions from lawmakers in a closed-door session.

Judge Ann Claire Williams, the first African American ever appointed to the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals, joins a list of about 10 other candidates to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens, the White House confirmed.

Obama said Wednesday that he would announce a nominee before the end of May, but aides to the president — a former constitutional law lecturer — said he was nowhere near winnowing his list of candidates. Senior administration officials say Obama wants to look outside the so-called judicial monastery: the domain of federal appeals court judges and top-tier law professors.

In a bipartisan meeting with Senate leaders and Judiciary Committee members, Obama said he was interested in hearing their "thoughts and concerns" and that they should feel free to submit the names of judges they wanted considered.

Ann Claire Williams was a Reagan appointee originally. Is he serious about her, or is she just a leak to throw conservatives off their guard.

A normal president would already have a short list picked out and at least partially vetted.

But we don’t have a normal president. We have the class clown...

Obama broadens search for Supreme Court nominee

Yeah..he's expanded it to the gays, lesbians, trans-genders, bisexuals, 9/11 truthers, Kevin Jenings soul-mates who believe in forcing gay sex on 13 year olds, Bill Ayers soul-mates, America haters of all stripes, those who hate the constitution, and every kind of looony left group he can find. Oh wait.. those are the very groups he started with in the first place.

He'll wait to see what the polls look like at the end of May.

If his leftist base is still behind him with his anti-capitalist screed he did this week he'll feel safe to go with a more "moderate" candidate.

If his base is mad at him again he'll pick Kagan IMO.

LOL thats some funny stuff there,

I figured Obamster would nominate himself and then get congressional approval by the "deemed passed" method. Then he could really get down to some change you can believe in

I suggest getting by with eight justices for a few years.
Like under Andrew Johnson.

Now he's "broadening" the search because he's going to need one to rule in his favor to try and knock down the bills passed in Florida and Arizona.

How will an obama SCOTUS pick rule on the Constitution and States Rights?

What do we do aobut obamabots on the SCOTUS?

He will be pulling their strings, ya know.

Leaving no slimy, stinky, filthy rock unturned so he can find someone just as qualified as all his administration appointees.
