Obama's supporters state there is no record the Founders used Vattel.
The second page shows the addition natural born citizen in 1787, the third page references Vattel.
Wyoming.
freethinker_for_freedom: Dont be naive.
Dumbest statement I've seen in 20 years.
Popular vote means nothing. All it does is determine who the electors are going to be. The electors are the ONLY ones who have a vote that COUNTS. Go back to skrool and take government over. Or do they even teach it correctly anymore? Obviously not......
“That has got to be the most ignorant statement I’ve ever read on FR!
The POTUS has never in the history of this nation been elected by the popular vote.
Look into The Electoral College!”
Thanks for that. But your naivete is alarming. The Supreme Court is part of the body politic. It is well aware that to maintain its standing as a co-equal with the Congress and the presidency it must above all maintain its standing as an impartial referee. To overturn the popular will is always more of a concern to it than to overturn a position supported by only a small minority.
“Dont be naive.”
I can only suggest you read Article II of the US Constitution.
If any one State wanted to, they could pass a law that says “..the State Assembly shall from henceforth nominate and elect the presidential electors...” and they would be entirely within their right. They used to do that for Senators. Senators were originally intended to represent the interests of the State Governments and were elected by them, while the representatives were elected by their constituents. Popular election of Senators came with the 17th Amendment.
“Dumbest statement I’ve seen in 20 years.”
Thanks for your informative comment. Please read my post #125.
Maybe Blago had his gloves up to protect his head mop from being knocked out of place?
Actually it was Wyoming, but that’s exactly why he ‘moved’ from Texas.
To overturn the popular will...
So you change form popular vote to popular will and expect to be taken seriously? You haven't even retracted your previous error!
It changes nothing and all your moving lips are doing is creating a breeze.
We Pennsylvanians act as if we believed that God made of one blood all families of the earth; but the Eastern people seem to think that he made none but New England folks.
It is strange that men born and educated under republican forms of government should be so contracted on the subject of general philanthropy.
In Pennsylvania, used as we are to the reception and adoption of strangers, we receive no class of men with such diffidence as the Eastern people.
They really have the worst characters of any people who offer themselves for citizens. Yet these are the men who affect the greatest fear of being contaminated with foreign manners, customs, or vices. Perhaps it is with justice that they fear an adoption of any of the latter, for they surely have enough already.

CHAPTER VI. THE ASSUMPTION AND NATURALIZATION BILLS.
My statement as to being naive had to do with the poster’s thinking that the Supreme Court would have no qualms telling the majority of people who voted in the presidential election that their vote does not count because a French writer (French??!!) defined “natural born citizen” in a way that is at odds with what is commonly accepted.
I personally believe that Obama lying to the FBI regarding Blago, and the motion to subpoena Obama to testify filed yesterday is what will bring him down. Unfortunately, I wonder if this will be how they avoid the whole illegal President situation... [Not that we’ll give up on it mind you... There is more than just Obama being thrown out of office at stake here, obviously]
He’s a vain coward and his current trainers, coach and supporters, who-ever they might be, have good reason to be nervous...
“So you change form popular vote to popular will and expect to be taken seriously? You haven’t even retracted your previous error!”
Is the popular vote not an indicator of the popular will? Please. Use a little common sense.
Lynne Cheney is from Casper, Wyoming. Dick was born in Lincoln and went to school in Wyoming.
