Restaurant smoking bans have improved my life and my appetite.

And once that infringement on property rights became codified, with the apparent approval of the author who seems unable to connect the dots, the race was on.

Just like anything you find objectionable, you were always free to leave. Or smoking could have been banned by the property owner and the smokers could leave. It was the false claim that second-hand smoke kills people that brought nanny government and the busybodies who elected it into the picture. Same thing with "global warming". Concoct some pseudo-science and then become a tyrant. I don't smoke, but here's smoke in your face.

No. Basically it is because smoking is a dirty, filthy foul-smelling activity. Back before smoking bans, you could NOT get away from it. Movie theaters, buses, cars, planes ... it was everywhere.

Now, smoking is mostly relegated to the lower class who can least afford it.
