French Muslim fined for driving while veiled

The lawyer for a French Muslim woman fined for driving while wearing a full-face veil has accused police of abusing her human rights, as the government pushes to ban the garment.

Police stopped the 31-one-year-old in the western city of Nantes and fined her 22 euros ($31.80) on the grounds that her niqab - an Islamic veil with a slit for the eyes - restricted her view so she could not drive safely.

"This fine is not justified on road safety grounds and constitutes a breach of human and women's rights," said the woman's lawyer, Jean-Michel Pollono.

He insists his client, who has not been named, could "move freely" and "her field of vision was in no way obstructed."

He added that "the field of vision of a motorcycle rider wearing a helmet is more restricted."

Well, then how about a KKK hood?

Because in my view, the niqab is to Islam, as the white hood is to the KKK. The burka, niqab, chador - whatever you want to call it, is nothing but a political symbol of Islam.

The most oppressive religion in the world to women is now concerned about women rights?

Where was this lawyer when the Taliban was in charge?

"This fine is not justified on road safety grounds and constitutes a breach of human and women's rights"

Some lawyers will say just about anything, no matter how outrageous, for a fee.

In Saudi Arabia, she would not be allowed to drive a car, veiled or not, nor to leave her home unaccompanied by a male relative.

Let her go there and complain about human rights.

They will bury her alive, or, perhaps mercifully apply a coup de grace before completing the burial.

“The prosecution calls Jean-Michel Pollono to the stand, “the stand” in this case being the driver’s seat of his own car, which we have brought to the local DMV testing area, and which he will attempt to drive, while wearing a niqab...”

I didn’t think that they would let their women drive! Barefoot and pregnant and all that.

Saudi Arabia - Conversion by a Muslim to another religion is punishable by death. Bibles are illegal. Churches are illegal. Easter celebrations are illegal. It is punishable by death for a non-mulsim to enter the "holy" muslim cities of Medina and Mecca.

If she were a true adherent to Islam, she wouldn't have been driving at all! She should have been in the home, behind closed doors, seen only by her husband and children.

You can't have it both ways, Lady!
