ARIZONA DAILY STAR Bailey Stephen Harn, Eagle Scout
Bailey Stephen Harn, 14, has earned the Boy Scouts' highest rank of Eagle Scout. Only 4 to 5 percent of youth who join Scouting earn this honor.
Celebrating his achievement, an Eagle Court of Honor will be held at 10 a.m. May 1 at the North Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 939 W. Chapala Drive.
Bailey is a member of Boy Scout Troop 232 of the Catalina Council, Old Pueblo District.
An eighth-grader at Cross Middle School, he is the son of Steve and Wendy Harn and big brother to Brody, Brayden and Britney.
In addition to earning 22 Scout merit badges and completing an extensive leadership-based community Eagle project, Bailey is completing two high school credits, is a member of the National Junior Honor Society, plays piano, has an extreme passion for basketball and plays soccer.
More than 75 volunteers contributed 235 hours toward Bailey's Eagle Scout project of completely reorganizing 37,000 books in the Cross/Harelson School Library.

Two of my Stock Boys are Eagle Scouts. One is worth his weight in Gold. The other? I don’t know HOW he managed to do it, because he can’t stay on task for more than two MINUTES at a time.

Was he a special needs Scout?
I raised three Eagle Scouts. The first was most difficult; the next two eagerly took up the challenge and followed the first one’s lead.
If there is such a thing, he’d be a prime candidate, that’s for sure. ADHD to the max.
Somehow, I thought you either cut the mustard or you didn’t when it came to being an Eagle Scout.
Why water down something THIS prestigious?

Seriously, congratulations! Mormons and Boy Scouts are two of my favorite groups. The former because they drive the Fred Phelps fundies crazy, the later because they do the same to the ACLU.
My oldest had his Eagle project approved last night by the district board. We are hoping to do the project the first weekend in May. He will be cutting it a bit short as he turns eighteen in June, but he started at fourteen. We are sooo proud of him!
If that sounded ‘mean’ it wasn’t meant to. I just didn’t know that it was open to everyone and you could get special help to get it.
I doubt many people will grasp what a tremendous accomplishment this is. Eagle Scout at 14? Wow!

There are special allowences and rules for special needs Scouts.
The Scout must complete as many of the standard requirements as he can.
The unit submits to council advancement committee a request detailig which standard requirements the Scout has complete and suggests alternates for thise he can’t complete. A statement from a licenced halth-care must accompany the request, and, in the case of a mental disabilitym an evaluation from a certified educational administraor must be filed as well.

The toughest part is getting the final packet written up and into the District Advancement Committee on time. I had one boy that made it 15 minutes before midnight the day before his 18th birthday.
OLTG also made Eagle Scout at 14...in 1982.
I'm 42 and still have my laminated Eagle Scout card in my wallet.
