U.S. promises Arabs no more Jewish construction

JERUSALEM – The Obama administration pledged to the Palestinian Authority it will secure an extension of a freeze on Jewish construction in the West Bank and a de facto freeze in eastern Jerusalem, a top PA leader told WND.

Under intense U.S. pressure, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in November announced a 10-month halt to all Jewish construction in the West Bank in an attempt to jumpstart talks aimed at creating a PA-led state. Netanyahu had publicly claimed the settlement moratorium was temporary and that new construction would resume after the freeze expires in September.

The Obama administration is also demanding a total halt to all Jewish construction in eastern Jerusalem as a precondition to jumpstart talks. Netanyahu has refused an official freeze, but almost no new Jewish construction in eastern Jerusalem has been approved since last month.

A top PA leader told WND in a phone interview today that Obama administration officials told him they are confident Netanyahu will extend the construction freeze to the West Bank as well as the de facto freeze in eastern Jerusalem beyond the agreed-upon time limits.

Obama has no business telling Israel what they can and cannot do on their own territory (which includes all of Judea and Samaria, IMHO).

Before there was an Israel, there was an Egypt and a Jordan.

After there was an Israel, the Egyptians and Jordanians who had been living in the historic Nation of Israel, re-created themselves as “Palestinians” and declared the Nation that once was Egypt and Jordan their own.

If Palestine is a “real” Nation, why was it not formed BEFORE Israel?

Reading this makes me sad. I would hope that Netanyahu's government does not cave in to this crap. Really, if the gesture of the freeze was to promote peace negotiations, and since that time there have been no negotiations, then the freeze was not successful, and what is the point to continue it?

The only reason is the "Palestinians" (a whole story on its own merit) will keep pressing for more, and more, and never be satisfied. We've seen this in the deals that they have rejected. Why Israel continues the concessions, who knows?

And on that note, more food for thought - why has not anyone pointed out, nor has the media noticed, the extreme double standard applied to Israel by The Exhalted One, who so gloriously declared in his presidential campaign that we, The United States of America, would engage Iran in diplomatic talks with NO PRECONDITIONS, and is now demanding as a supposed unbiased third party mediator, that Israel must obey and concede to preconditions before even having a guarantee of talks?

Why does not anyone point out this hypocrisy. This double standard has been applied to Israel all her life, sadly to say, and did not start with Obama (see the U.N. and "disproportionate force" BS) ... but the irony of the situation should be quite evident here. It just really pisses me off.
