I’m not sure that Dave Ramsey said that people should use cash for privacy reasons, he probably meant that cash can help with personal spending discipline. However, cash is now absolutely necessary for privacy. You can also get discounts by paying cash.
During the Great depression people hoarded cash in their homes. It wan’t just because of bank failures, it was because of fear of confiscation. And of course gold bullion was in effect confiscated by FDR for paper currency trade in.
The government is trotting out that air head Suzie Orman to encourage people to keep their money in banks. Great, just sitting there for government confiscation.

This is the last straw. I have been contemplating for some months that I would take my Soc Sec out of my account with ATM draws, and go to Wal Mart and buy checks there to pay for my bills.

I have been trying hard to reduce my credit card balances. This will give me even more incentive. I already hold out $100 cash each month to try and pay cash and keep off my cards. That effort has to get bigger.

I think they are working at getting a track on each time you go to a restaurant, etc. They are going to use all this data against you in the future when they totally control your health care.

I have a ‘discount card’ from the local grocery store, but I am going to ask if I can have one without giving them any data from me.

A couple of years ago, a guy involved in a car accident was hammered in court by the COMPLETE record for the prior 3 years of his GROCERY purchases. He had been buying his invalid mother her liqour on his grocery card, and the other lawyer protrayed him as a drunk—a closet drunk. I think he got jail time over the incident.

The Fourth Amendment (Amendment IV) to the United States Constitution is the part of the Bill of Rights which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures. --

wonder if this will come into play.

Anyone who works at a bank knows that large transactions already need to be reported by the bank to the Feds.

why is the GOP not talking about this?

Why are you so willfully ignorant of what is going on in DC? 41 GOP Senators are the only ones stopping this bill from becoming law.

Why the hell are the MSM always covering for bozo and why does the GOP let them get away with their bias corruption?

Guess it escaped your notice that the MSM are privately owned business. The GOP cannot compel them to do a thing they do not want to do.

Why are you so desperately for some excuse to attack the GOP on every thread? Why are you so utterly unwilling to ever attack the Democrats on anything?

Clear violation of the 5th Amendment

"No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation

Because unfortunately control of both political parties have been taken over by statists. Demo-statists are hard-core. GOP statists are soft-core, but supporters of statism, nonetheless.

But guess that the beauty of being a member of fringe movement like the Libertarians for you. You get to sit at your computer posting ignorant slogans at everyone instead of actually having to do the messy dirty work of actually having a clue about what is going on.

When I heard about this, I was reminded that Obama took out his political opponents, not at the ballot box, but by driving them out of the race entirely. I fear, from now on, anyone who wants to oppose a liberal politician will have to have lived the life of a saint or they will have their reputation destroyed publicly.

When you Deposit funds into a FEDERALLY Controlled, Federally Insured Financial Institution, which by the way is supervised by the Federal Reserve Corp. You Have GIVEN UP ALL YOUR RIGHTS.
Read your AGREEMENT with the Bank that you signed. It is THEIR money not yours.

Here's something fun. Sign up for Quicken online for budgeting. Connect it to your VISA check card.

Go to Wal Mart for groceries; of course you'll pick up a few odds and ends. Check Quicken.

You can now see, in graph form, how much you spend on health an beauty products, groceries, entertainment etc.

Of course, this isn't new and shouldn't really be news to anyone.... but its kinda shocking when your habits are all on the screen.

She is no airhead. She is a serious, smart left-wing lesbian. She is also a bald-faced LIAR. She has for years told people to invest the majority of their money in stocks and mutual funds, as she did. In reality, 95% of Orman's liquid investments are in BONDS.

Did not know about the Homeland Security change, but just the same it is a real expansion of Big Brother (or Big Sis)

There is a very serious problem with our monetary system. Scam game thing deluxe at the government level, slavery at the personal level. Will eventually self distruct, has read extensively about consequences 20 years ago, but it is getting very close now.

Like most people, I just want to be left alone to live my life in peace. Looks like that is not what the gov has in mind.

We shall see how this plays out soon.

I thought the or some similar ‘homeland security’ legislation lowered that to $5,000.

Bank tellers have been reporting $5,000 cash deposits and up for more than 10 years now. If you made more than one a week, it was likely reported.

Of course he did not and you nailed his reason.

This gov't is looking at any and all approaches to confiscate our wealth. This Financial Reform Bill gives them the tools to monitor what we have. They will be able to "calculate" how much cash we might have on hand, simply by looking at pay checks, credit cards and what the average person in that neighborhood spends. It is very scary what the government can do and how they can "fill in the blanks" and "connect the dots."

You saw what they did to Joe the Plumber? And yet the man whom Joe questioned, who would become PRESIDENT for pete's sake, suffered about only 1/20th the MSM media scrutiny of/on/re: his background that average Citizen Joe suffered. This shows you how truly corrput, coercive and fascistic it is getting, the Government-Media Complex. It smells like 1933 in here if you ask me. Wonder when the mandatory lining up for the HIV shots (to be infected) since the Govt will have decided it is unfaaaaaair that primarily only Gays have the disease so they will demand the non-Gay public also suffer the scourage. I would not put it past these ghoulish statists.

Because the GOP is under the delusion that they will have the power back someday and they would like to have that power too. The GOP is not our friend, they are part of the ruling class. It’s a bad cop good cop routine and we’re the suckers.

“The GOP is not our friend, they are part of the ruling class.”

I’ve been thinking along those same lines recently myself.
