US official: Iran military strike 'off the table'

SINGAPORE – The U.S. has ruled out a military strike against Iran's nuclear program any time soon, hoping instead negotiations and United Nations sanctions will prevent the Middle East nation from developing nuclear weapons, a top U.S. defense department official said Wednesday.

"Military force is an option of last resort," Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Michele Flournoy said during a press briefing in Singapore. "It's off the table in the near term."

The U.S. and its allies fear Tehran is using its nuclear program to build arms. Iran denies the charges, and says its program only aims to generate electricity.

"Right now the focus is a combination of engagement and pressure in the form of sanctions," Flournoy said. "We have not seen Iran engage productively in response."

Not that this is any big surprise with this administration, but why announce our strategy to the world and Iran? Are they on dope?

They're too busy laughing at the regime of Hussein Obama.

Sanctions? Schmanctions!

every day, we lose a soldier or an ally does , courtesy of a rogue regime, a radical Islamist regime.

and how do we proceed? .. or how should I say, how does our regime proceed?

like it’s the second coming of ‘Peace in Our Times’ as we wield ‘soft power’ to battle our openly avowed enemies.

It’s either rope-a-dope or they are smoking hemp rope in the WH strategery room.

It’s a re-affirmation of our ‘be nice and carry a pom pom, not a stick’ policy.

While I'll agree that military force is an option of last resort, I would have thought that we had reached that point a couple years ago with Iran. The near term is all that we have, and even the Community-Organizer-in-Chief's spokesperson admits that Iran has not engaged productively in the "negotiations". Either this announcement is a clear signal to Israel that they are the free world's only hope, or it's a clear signal to the radical Islamists that they won on November 4, 2008. I will pray for the free world.

This will all fall to Israel, IMO.

Bebe better be ready to level the entire country of IRAN, and then focus his next strike against Syria.

Don’t worry Hadji, we will never ever harm you. Even if you attack us directly or by proxy, we won’t do a thing! Now will you please stop trying to make a nuclear bomb and quit funding terrorists? Please?
