US Won’t Promise Won’t Shoot Down Israeli Planes
Israel National News ^

In a meeting with students at West Virginia University, a young pilot asked the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Army, Mike Malen, to comment on rumors that if Israel decides to attack Iran, its fighters will need to cross Iraq's airspace to reach their targets. The U.S. military has described this airspace as closed to flights. If so, would American forces shoot down Israeli planes flying over Iraq?
Malen's reply: "We have a strong exceptional relationship with Israel. I spent much time with my colleagues in Israel. And so we have a very clear understanding of where we are. Beyond that, I just would not want to get into speculation about what might happen and who might do what. Frankly, I do not think it serves any purpose. I hope that the issue will be resolved in the way which will never have to answer a question like this. "

From an Israeli pov, that's not a very reassuring response and a message not to go it alone, or at least not without getting US permission first.
Have a hard time picturing the USAF shooting down IAF aircraft . . .

They might get the order to shoot, but may develop a sudden real bad sense of aim. Oooops, missed again.

I don’t think the Chairman should comment on hypothetical US policy about shooting down an allies planes to some students. He is, afterall, a soldier.

It's hard to envision an Israeli attack on a US warship, or maybe not.
"The USS Liberty incident was an attack on a United States Navy technical research ship, USS Liberty, by Israeli jet fighter planes and motor torpedo boats, on June 8, 1967, during the ongoing Six-Day War. The combined air and sea attack killed 34 crew members (naval officers, seamen, two Marines, and a civilian), wounded 171 crew members, and severely damaged the ship. At the time, the ship was in international waters north of the Sinai Peninsula, about 25.5 nmi (29.3 mi; 47.2 km) northwest from the Egyptian city of Arish.[1]"

So do I. The USAF is so thoroughly inferior to the IAF in talent that it would take a lucky shot to even nick an Israeli plane. . .

US Weapons to Lebanon Despite Hizbullah Closeness
With the dividing lines between Hizbullah and the Lebanese Armed Forces not altogether
clear, the United States has delivered weapons and ammunition to Israel's northern
neighbor and thereby possibly to its enemy.
The U.S. embassy in Lebanon announced last week that on April 2 it had delivered the
first in a series of shipments of weapons and ammunition. The shipment included 1,000
M16A4 rifles, 10 missile launchers, 1,583 grenade launchers, and 538 sets of day/night
binoculars and night-vision devices. It was stressed that the equipment would be
supported with training provided by the U.S. government.
Lebanese Defense Minister Elias Murr visited Washington in February to discuss military
cooperation, especially U.S. assistance to the LAF to fight terrorism.
A month ago, Minister Murr told Lebanese Al-Manar television that though he does not
support integrating Hizbullah arms and forces within the LAF, this does not mean we
should offer Israel a favor [and disarm Hizbullah].
Americas Shiny New Palestinian Militia
No matter how events play out, this story ends with U.S.-trained soldiers pointing their guns at Israel.
The stupidest program the U.S. government has ever undertaken last year thats
what I called American efforts to improve the Palestinian Authority (PA) military force.
Slightly hyperbolic, yes, but the description fits because those efforts enhance the
fighting power of enemies of the United States and its Israeli ally.
First, a primer about the program, drawing on a recent Center for Near East Policy
Research study by David Bedein and Arlene Kushner: Shortly after Yasir Arafat died in
late 2004, the U.S. government established the Office of the U.S. Security Coordinator to
reform, recruit, train, and equip the PA militia (called the National Security Forces or
Quwwat al-Amn al-Watani) and make them politically accountable. For nearly all of its
existence, the office has been headed by Lt. Gen. Keith Dayton. Since 2007, American
taxpayers have funded it to the tune of $100 million a year. Many agencies of the U.S.
government have been involved in the program, including the State Departments Bureau
of Diplomatic Security, the Secret Service, and branches of the military.
Israel's Netanyahu keeping mum about Obama's virtual arms embargo
Israel's government has kept its silence during a year-long ban on weaopns sales imposed
by the United States at the same time the administration has approved $10 billion in
weapons sales to Arab states, a report said.
U.S. WARNS ISRAEL NOT TO HONOR ASSASSINATED AMERICAN RABBI FIRST U.S. VICTIM OF JIHAD KAHANE CEREMONY OFFENSIVE TO OBAMA Any commemoration in the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) of the anniversary of Rabbi Meir
Kahane's assassination would be harmful to the peace process, the American Embassy
told The Jerusalem Post.
The American comments came after the Jerusalem Post obtained e-mails in which an
embassy official told Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin's office that any plans for such a
ceremony was "something that Senator [George] Mitchell and his team are following
with concern."
The e-mails also implied that such a ceremony would be frowned upon by President
Barack Obama who is attempting to strengthen the U.S. ties to Muslim nations.
The likelihood of such a ceremony taking place was also the subject of a flurry of internal
embassy e-mails, in which US officials scrambled to find out where and when a
commemoration of the assassinated far-right-wing rabbi would occur.
The American-born Kahane was murdered in New York 19 years ago
(May09) American General Keith Dayton praises Fatah Soldiers as
'Founders of Palestinian State'
Palestinian Authority Special Forces were praised this week by an American general for
becoming the founders of a new Arab country within Israel's current borders.
Addressing a battalion in Tulkarm that recently finished training in Jordan, US lt. General
Keith Dayton said: "As I look at you, I couldn't be more proud of the fact that you
stepped up to be the founders of a Palestinian state."
The United States plans to expand a program to bolster Palestinian President Mahmoud
Abbas's security forces in the occupied West Bank, the general in charge of training and
equipping them said Monday.
"We have plans to train at least three more battalions before this time next year,"
Lieutenant General Keith Dayton told Reuters. Each battalion has about 500
members.
U.S. Army Training Fatah Terrorists To Attack Israel! (You ain't gonna beleive this one....)

'American training will be utilized to kill Jews'
NORTHERN WEST BANK security forces who recently received training
at U.S.-run bases as part of a stated effort to reform the PA's militias
All the trainings we received from Dayton and company will not affect our loyalty to
our people and the resistance," said the former Brigades leader.
The others present concurred.
The gunman was referring to Keith Dayton, the U.S. security coordinator to the
Palestinian territories who has been overseeing the training of Palestinian militias.
Since the late 1990s, the U.S. has run training bases for PA militias. The U.S. also has
provided hundreds of millions of dollars in financial aid and weapons to build up the PA militias.
"
What we received from Dayton, we will use when the day comes for a confrontation."
"I do not think that the operations of the Palestinian resistance would have been so
successful and would have killed more than 1,000 Israelis since 2000 and defeated the
Israelis in Gaza without these [American] trainings," said Yousuf.
Yousuf received U.S. training in Jericho in 1999 as a member of the Preventative
Security Services. He is a Brigades chief in Ramallah, where he is accused of
participating in anti-Israel terrorism, including recent shootings, attacks against Israeli
forces operating in the city and a shooting attack in northern Samaria in December 2000
that killed Benyamin Kahane, leader of the ultranationalist Kahane Chai organization.
Yousuf said his American training sessions were instrumental in killing Jews:
"All the methods and techniques that we studied in these trainings, we applied them against the Israelis," he said.
"We sniped at Israeli settlers and soldiers. We broke into settlements and Israeli army
bases and posts. We collected information on the movements of soldiers and settlers. We
collected information about the best timing to infiltrate our bombers inside Israel. We
used weapons and we produced explosives, and of course the trainings we received from
the Americans and the Europeans were a great help to the resistance."
"I myself received American trainings in Jericho. Together with my Preventative
comrades, I received trainings in intelligence methods and military trainings," he said. "In
the intelligence part, we learned collection of information regarding suspected persons,
how to follow suspected guys, how to infiltrate organizations and penetrate cells of
groups that we were working on and how to prevent attacks and to steal in places.
"On the military level, we received trainings on the use of weapons, all kind of weapons
and explosives," Yousuf said. "We received sniping trainings, work of special units
especially as part of what they call the fight against terror. We learned how to put siege,
how to break into places where our enemies closed themselves in, how to oppress protest
movements, demonstrations and other activities of opposition.
"I'm just telling you the truth," he said. "We applied against Israel all that we learned
from the Americans."
Obama's Official Web Site Equates Israel to Nazi Germany
Organizing for America Web site: "The majority of the Israeli policies are the exact
copies of the Nazi policies"
Barack Obama's official Web site, over which Barack Obama's organization exercises
editorial control, carries an entry that equates Israelis to Nazis and their treatment of
Palestinians to the Holocaust. Emily and her fellow moderators at Obama for America
apparently did not consider an entry that compares Israeli Jews to Nazis as "disrespectful
to our other users and detract from a welcoming community where all people can engage
in positive discourse." Here is the material that Obama for America approved for posting."
Barack Obamas Anti-Semitic Website
The site was and is closely policed. The site moderators remove material that they
consider to be disrespectful to our other users and to detract from a welcoming
community where all people can engage in positive discourse. What they find
disrespectful can be interesting: once during the campaign a conservative blogger, Bill
Levinson, posted a blog on Obamas website consisting entirely of a series of quotations
from Obamas own book, Dreams of my Father. Obamas team did not approve of their
standard-bearers words, and so Levinsons blog and account were deleted from the
Obama site in just under 36 hours. Thats right, Barack Obamas website banned
Obamas own words. But the most disgusting anti-semitic ravings remained on the site,
along with blogs advocating anarchy and the overthrow of the United States Congress."
Obama using 'blood libel' report to pressure Jewish state
TEL AVIV Senior Palestinian Authority officials told WND the Obama administration
offered their group guarantees that the U.S. would pressure Israel over a Palestinian state
in exchange for the PA's withdrawal of support for immediate U.N. action over an
investigation claiming Israel committed war crimes.
The PA officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told WND the guarantees include
pressing Israel to agree to a two-year timetable to negotiate a Palestinian state set along
the pre-1967 lines meaning a state in the Gaza Strip, West Bank and eastern sections of
Jerusalem.
The officials said the Obama administration hopes to set the timetable publicly before
March. They said Obama's Mideast envoy, George Mitchell, presented the timetable to
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in meetings here the past few days.
The PA officials said Mitchell specifically told the Palestinians the Obama administration
will push for a state including much of eastern Jerusalem.
"Mitchell told us not to be worried about what happened in Jabel Mukabar. It was just a
ceremony and won't create any facts on the ground," one senior PA official told WND.
At the UN, the Obama administration backs limits on free speech.
At the UN, the Obama administration backs limits on free speech.
This article, by Anne Bayefsky, originally appeared in The Weekly Standard.
The Obama administration has marked its first foray into the UN human rights
establishment by backing calls for limits on freedom of expression. The newly-minted American policy was rolled out at the latest session of the UN Human Rights
Council, which ended in Geneva on Friday. American diplomats were there for the first time as full Council members and intent on making friends.
President Obama chose to join the Council despite the fact that the Organization of the
Islamic Conference holds the balance of power and human rights abusers are among its
lead actors, including China, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia. Islamic states quickly interpreted
the president's penchant for "engagement" as meaning fundamental rights were now up
for grabs. Few would have predicted, however, that the shift would begin with America's
most treasured freedom."

I can see a lot of pilots turning in their wings before engaging the IAF.
Considering the IAF's kill ratio that is probably the safest option. These aren't the Iraqis that can barely fly their aircraft. Going up against the IAF is no easy kill. They have the same aircraft as the Americans, comparable or possibly better training, and better intel.
