Well, they've done it again. The British House of Commons, who launched a series of investigative reports into Climategate -- the hacking of emails from the East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU), which ruined the organization's credibility by exposing damning emails.
The first report "cleared" the scientists involved in any wrongdoing. While not without criticism -- it refers to a "culture of non-disclosure at CRU" and finds prima facie evidence that the University encouraged this culture -- they state that "the focus on CRU and Professor Phil Jones, Director of CRU, in particular, has been largely misplaced". They state that they can "sympathize" with Professor Jones, "who must have found it frustrating to handle requests for data that he knew - or perceived - were motivated by a desire simply to undermine his work." They also find that "Professor Jones' actions were in line with common practice in the climate science community" and that there would be a subsequent review, chaired by Lord Oxburgh, that would go into more detail.
Well, the Oxburgh report is out, and it's more of the same. In claim after claim, they clear the scientists of wrongdoing on all charges and criticize their critics, describing them, for example, as having a "lack of awareness of the ongoing and an dynamic nature of chronologies" and containing "over-simplifications that omit serious discussion of uncertainties emphasized by the original authors". They conclude that "we saw no evidence of any deliberate scientific malpractice in any work of the Climatic Research Unit". Their only significant criticism is to recommend that they consult more with statisticians.
UK citizens, witness your tax dollars at work. Read the full whitewash at the links above.
So they used bad data, used poor statistical techniques, and IPCC misused their findings. They are just incompetent not corrupt? Sandy Berger, please call your office.
LOL! It reminds me of the old Soviet Communists' language. The more you change the language and use big words, the more you'll get away with anything because the masses are dumb!
We already started to see our SRM doing the same thing, even though they have to come up with one "clarification" after another.
I wrote a longish comment, but the heck with that! See my tagline!
