LA cardinal: Nazism in Arizona immigration bill
Associated Press ^ | April 20, 2010

Posted on 04/20/2010 12:41:31 PM PDT by Zakeet

The head of the nation's largest Roman Catholic archdiocese has condemned a proposed Arizona crackdown on illegal immigrants, saying it encourages people to turn on each other in Nazi- and Soviet-style repression.

The measure wrongly assumes that Arizonans "will now shift their total attention to guessing which Latino-looking or foreign-looking person may or may not have proper documents," Cardinal Roger Mahony said in his blog Sunday — a day before Arizona's Legislature sent the immigration enforcement measure to the Republican governor.

Gov. Jan Brewer has not indicated whether she will sign the bill, which creates a new state misdemeanor of willful failure to complete or carry an alien registration document. It would also require officers to determine people's immigration status if there's reason to suspect they're in the country illegally.

Arizona has an estimated 460,000 illegal immigrants. Proponents of the bill say it was prompted by concerns over the cost of providing services to illegal immigrants and by the slaying of an Arizona rancher near the Mexican border this month. Authorities believe he was fatally shot by an illegal immigrant possibly connected to a drug smuggling cartel.

Republican Arizona Sen. Russell Pearce, who sponsored the bill, has said it will take handcuffs off police and put them on violent criminals.

But Mahony, whose archdiocese has a huge Hispanic immigrant population, said the Arizona Legislature was passing "the country's most retrogressive, mean-spirited, and useless anti-immigrant law."

He’s on his way out. When was his last day?

I’ll never forgive him for bailing on the lovely Saint Vibiana’s Cathedral.

Cardinal Mahony sounds like a card-carrying member of the Hispanic Ku Klux Klan....La Raza (The Race).

Anyone who values the rights of Illegal Aliens over the rights of American Citizens is an Anti-American Bigot. Cardinal Mahony...you are an Anti-American Bigot....

I want one of these pro-slavery and perveyors of the INHUMANE issue of illegal immigration to defend illegal trading in humans. Do they also support the human trafficing of women for BROTHELS in SANCTUARY CITIES. Some sanctuary/s
Arizona is actually the HUMANE people in this issue. Stop the illegal trading of members of the HUMAN FAMILY.

Defend THAT Cardinal.

When did the bishops and politicians reject commonsense? I wish that these leaders cared as much about the victims of illegal aliens as they cared about hurting someone’s feelings. It is not the fault of the law enforcement agencies that illegal aliens are raping, murdering, and stealing in this country, not to mention the number of Hispanic gangs. If Hispanics or Latinos want to blame someone, blame the illegal aliens. If it were not for them, there would not be a need to check law abiding Hispanics. Of course it is racial profiling. We are not being invaded by Swedes on our southern border. Our society no longer knows its right hand from its left.

We do seem to be experiencing Cardinals Gone Wild these days. Was just reading about one in Boliva that took sides in a political battle over privatizing the water system (he was against it naturally) We’ve come a long way from the days when JP II made Father Drinan quit Congress.

I don’t want to live in Mexico. I like America. My Grandfather killed many people in order to preserve America.

I really don’t like the idea of letting him down.

Wouldn’t the Leftists consider it racist to assume most illegals are Hispanic? That is if Hispanic was a race.

This is Lawlessness.

YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS.'

Priests, bishops, cardinals - more and more I am getting fed up with my clergy making stupid comments. Maybe we do need an ‘American Catholic Church’ after all.

LOL. Actually, we have an "American Catholic Church," and Mahoney is its pope. Where have you been?

Do you think Mahoney takes his orders from the Vatican? Spare me....

Hey, Cardinal. Please work your side of the street. That should keep you busy for a while.

You wrote:

“I remember when the Catholic Church fought against invasion at Lepanto and Vienna.”

You remember reading about it!!! And those were Muslims. These are fellow Catholics - at least on paper. Still, illegal immigration is wrong and the Church use to condemn it as a violation of the law. I just ordered a book written by a priest who shows how out of step the “modern” teaching on illegal immigration is without historical teachings. I am looking forward to reading it.

Just wait... the ACLU and LULAC will federal judge shop a lawsuit claiming that AZ does not have have the authorization to affect immigration actions... that only the feds can do that.

That's what the Illeagals lovers here in Texas (Farmers Branch, TX ) did when FB enacted an ordiance/law making it illegal for landlords to rent an appartment to Illegals.

The federal judge here in TX knew damn well that the federal govt. would not do a damn thing.

I have heard that the FB city council will appeal this s-bag federal judge's decision to the circuit court in Louisana. I'm sure it will go all the way to the Supreme Court (that's if Farmers Branch doesn't throw in the towel due to costs of appealing).

I want to live in the Vatican City, who do I contact in the Vatican for my Vatican City affordable housing, food stamps and welfare money, oh yeah, I'll need schooling, breakfasts and lunches for the kids as well.

I know that the Vatican City won't refuse me, for to do so would subject me and my family to "Nazi- and Soviet-style repression."

No, these -—what can I call them? For short, Mahony-ites-— “are” the “American Catholic Church.”

What we need is a restoration of the Catholic-Catholics.

The Catholic Wing of the Catholic Church.
