The Cardinal needs a nice big cup of STFU.

If white Catholics voted like white southern Baptists, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Pennsylvania would be solidly GOP. That's why I don't take the "Catholic census" (ie the numbers quoted by Catholics on this site), as only a minority of those folks are true believing Catholics.

The suburbs of NY are filled with pro-abort, pro-contraception Catholics, many of whom are Catholic only because of "family tradition."

“... 55,322 criminal aliens were arrested a total of at least 459,614 times, averaging over eight arrests per alien.”
The Department of Justice expressed its surprise at the ‘extremely high’ rate of re-arrests for criminal aliens when it found that that 73 criminal aliens in a study group were arrested a total of 429 times.” ...quoting a Government Accounting Office (GAO) study.
Reflect on those numbers for just a minute. This GAO study is only counting the number of arrests! And that should bring two questions immediately to mind: How many actual crimes did these 55,322 criminal aliens actually commit? How is it even conceivable that each of these illegal aliens could be arrested on average a total of almost nine times?
To at least partially answer the second question, you only need to look at so-called “sanctuary cities.” Sanctuary cities are localities across the United States where liberal mayors and local legislators have instituted policies that prohibit law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration agents and prohibit them from even questioning the immigration status of anyone they arrest. But to add more insult to injury, many American cities even allow illegal aliens to obtain free health care, food stamps and a whole assortment of government goodies without having their immigration status questioned.

You guess wrong!

I ask a reasonable question based on the unfortunate, but recurring opportunistic Catholic bashing here at FR, and you start yapping with an array of unsubstantial BS.

Your assertions are irrational.

How much influence on presidential voters Law had I don't know ...

In 1984, the Reagan/Bush ticket won every electoral vote except Minnesota and DC. Even the liberal states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New England voted Republican. It was a clean sweep. In those days, Catholic archbishops such as O'Connor and Law had a substantial influence in the presidential vote.

In 1980, Reagan won every Northeastern state except Rhode Island.

But by 1988, the church's conservative influence in presidential races was starting to recede. Even though Bush/Quayle won a landslide elsewhere in the country like Reagan did, they lost New York and Massachusetts (in addition to Rhode Island) in 1988.

By 1992, it was Clinton who was sweeping the entire Northeast like Reagan did.

Hence no Catholic leader can deliver votes as they once were able. Robert Drinin was a Jesuit priest in the congress and a dependable supporter of any pro abortion law that came up for vote though he said he was personally opposed to abortion. He went on to become a professor at Georgetown.

Jack Kennedy had to proclaim that his religion wouldn't affect his conduct to get elected and that has become the normative disclaimer of any Catholic running for office.

So when a bishop covers for an abusive priest he's making the same disconnection between actions and teachings that thousands of Catholics make each day about acts like contraception and abortion.

THEY aren't excommunicated or kept from mass and consider themselves “Catholic” and all the more so as they've put their own conscience ahead of what they have been taught.

If the Catholic church can do what it feels is in its best interests why would the members not do the same and vote for whoever and whatever they think serves their best interests? Even if hostile to Catholic teachings.

Having a majority Catholic community does not make a community Catholic, except in name.

So, I guess you are For Mahony calling law enforcement Nazi's? You are the irrational one. You can't have it both ways. If you search my posts you will see what I've been saying for over a year now about the RC Church. I are one!

I'm sick of the Church screwing up by the numbers and then the robots come out and say any criticism is Bashing! I'm not going to re type everything I'm unhappy about, I don't have the time or inclination. My quick point is the Church is being destroyed from the inside and Catholics don't seem to care. When someone says Pelosi and Biden should be thrown out, or at least stopped from the Sacraments, I get called a basher. The pedophiles WERE protected, there is no argument now. Social Justice is preached from the pulpit( I agree with Glenn Beck on that), and about 30 other reasons to question what is happening in the Church. Catholics on FR are generally conservatives, so they think any criticism is bashing, but any outside observer would have to admit the Liberals are running the Church now. If you think that is just fine, then OK, we can vote Obama back in office for another 4 years. But if the Church would straighten out and discipline some of it's rouge members and priests, maybe we could stop the slide to Gomorrah.

Just a reminder, Catholics voted by a big majority for Obama and the Dems. He voted to allow women to kill their baby AFTER it was born. The inmates are running the asylum, IMO. You may call me an idiot, others think I'm prophetic. If Catholics would remove the scales from our eyes, maybe we could see more clearly what has happened in the last 40 years. The Church CAN change as it has over the centuries, but first you have to admit there is a problem. Calling people bashers isn't the first step. Can you honestly say, in your own heart, that everything is fine?

I will be watching to see if anything is said to Mahony. My money is on "no". The Church approves of him and his rhetoric. Right minded Catholics are in the minority and it will be pushed down our throats in the near future. We are destined to be a 3rd world country and Catholics will be right there saying we deserved it. Just take a look at Argentina, Venezuela, Bolivia, Honduras, and on and on. The Catholic Church is right there boosting the commie dictators and the first thing they do is put their boots on the people's neck.

So let's bring in the gang bangers and welfare hogs and hide them in the church because we want the US to be just like Mexico. Mahony will be right there cheering with no consequences from the Church. BTW, I live in Texas and see this first hand.

The Catholic Church in the US has always been pro-illegal because its good for business. Most illegals are Catholics and most illegals breed like rabbits. Thats great for membership.

“The suburbs of NY are filled with pro-abort, pro-contraception Catholics, many of whom are Catholic only because of “family tradition.” “

The part of NC i’m in is the same way. I’d be shocked if the Catholic churches in the Triangle weren’t at least 60% Dem.

That's because it seems as though half of Long Island and North Jersey have been moving to North Carolina, especially the Triangle.

To make a long story short, I have been griping for some time now about the course the Church was on and what I usually get is "Shut up", you aren't allowed to complain about the obvious collapse of RC. Well, I wanted to see if anybody else is disgusted by the actions, or better yet, the inaction's of the Church. Rome is burning and they do and say NOTHING! The Kennedy/Pelosi/Kerry/Biden wing of RC is now in charge of the dismantling of the entire denomination. Some are in denial, some are not. I predict a split or a very large change of denomination if something doesn't change soon. I hate to see it, but the facts are slapping us in the face every day.

Instead of claiming I'm Catholic Bashing, I'm actually bashing the liberal doctrines of demons espoused by the Hell bound demons running the place. I would have to think long and hard to remember when the Church acted responsibly on any controversy about the Church. I'm just Paul Revere shouting "The Demons are Coming". I know you are thinking "They all aren't that bad", and you would be right. All I'm saying is they are the majority now and I'm not going to bury my head in the sand in denial.

I’m no less disturbed by the breach of morality in the Church. Neither do I have problem with the identification and criticism of the jackasses in the Church.

I wholeheartedly agree the Church needs to clean house.

Thank you. There are most definitely Catholic Bashers here and everywhere, but what I'm talking about is real trouble in the ranks, not just carping about dogma. My heart is broken over what I'm seeing and I feel powerless to do anything. I find many that agree with me, but most seem to say sit down and shut up about the Church. Either they agree with the usurpers, or they think it will go away if they just ignore it.

It's not going away, but it is getting worse. When Obama got the RC vote by such a margin, I knew it was big trouble. The ones that voted for Obama have to be motivated by something other than Christ. From what I can tell, they are supported from higher ups at least to the Cardinal level, otherwise, where is the discipline that should come at some point? Are priests allowed to just say and do anything without a Bishop correcting them? Then we hear from Bishops with the same clap trap.

Let us wait to see if anyone from the US to Rome says that Mahony should moderate his speech or some such statement. My bet is no. For me, that means the whole Church agrees with him. I expect this from the DNC, but not from the Church. If the Church saddles up with Dems, they also have to take homosexual marriage, abortion, no God in America, and all the other baggage that comes with them. If we lay with dogs, we will wake with fleas.
