Though many residents on Sunday said they believed that a deal would be reached before the deadline, little progress was made during contract negotiations over the weekend,
said Matt Nerzig, chief spokesman for Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union. You don't say!

What, you can’t enter a building without a doorman?
What happens when the elevator operators go on strike?
You can only be held hostage by those you give power to.

If I was a doorman I wouldn't dare go on strike.
It might take a few days for New Yorkers to figure out how to open a door for themselves but eventually they will.
Or someone from out of town will show them.

That there even IS such a job, in this day and age, is amazing!
My thought is that these glorified gatekeepers need to thank God that they have a job at all.
Go ahead and strike azzhats; let the world know that we CAN survive without you.

Who will do all those things? I’d guess just about any guy out of work, and for half the pay.

Doormen. Conspicuous consumption.
Good for everyone involved.
Wish I could have one.

Man, this is a shame!
Think of all the acidic Starbucks coffee spilling on the marble floor, as you try to balance your cup whilst punching “19”.
The Starbuck acid will eat away the marble floor forever!
