JERUSALEM Israel must recognize that the world will not put up with decades more of Israeli rule over the Palestinian people, the country's defense minister said in unusually frank remarks Monday.
Ehud Barak's comments, on the occasion of Israel's Memorial Day, come against the backdrop of severe friction between the U.S. and Israel's hawkish government over an impasse in peacemaking....
...."But we also shouldn't delude ourselves," he added. "The growing alienation between us and the United States is not good for the state of Israel."
The way to narrow that gap is to embark on an Israeli diplomatic initiative "that doesn't shy from dealing with all the core issues" dividing Israelis and Palestinians, he said.

I am nauseated and appalled that any Israeli leader would respond to the current Obamanation shift against Israel in this way!!!!!
This is playing right into Obama’s hands and telling every leftist and every Islamo-fascist in the world that now is the time to try to maximize pressures on Israel, economic, diplomatic, etc.
This is REWARDING the appalling statements and tactics of the current Obamanation regime. The last thing anyone in Israel should be doing or saying right now is this kind of crap —— it lends support and “legitimacy” to what the Obamanators are trying to do to Israel!!!!! this is nuts.
Is Barak by any chance a Liberal?
you may find this of interest - I think this is an outrageous set of remarks calculated to build pressure within Israel to cooperate with the horrible Obama administration in a very one-sided, harmful new round of “peace process”
what’s your take, if I may ask? Am I over-reacting? (I wish I were, but I don’t think so)
yes and a socialist, but I still thought he had a bit more sense than jumping with both feet onto the Obamanation bandwagon like this
He, as current Defense Minister and former PM (all too influenced by the Clintonistas of course) has now emphatically “framed” the issue as one about “occupation” and getting Israel out of “occupied” areas -— which is exactly how the Islamo-fascists and leftists worldwide constantly want to frame the issue -— but which is emphatically NOT what it is all about. Barak’s speech plays right into the propaganda hands of the Pali terrorists, IMHO.
Socialist. That figures. They are insane.
If Israel starts backing up now , they might as well head for the sea or Masada .
Because Judaism strongly discourages suicide, Josephus reported that the defenders had drawn lots and killed each other in turn, down to the last man, who would be the only one to actually take his own life.
Seems like a thin defense . I would not feel too comfortable arguing this fine point of law before my final Judge .

yes, and he has now issued a loud, open invitation to all haters of Israel to view the Israelis as facing imminent defeat and retreat whether on diplomatic, terrorist, or military fronts.
Israel’s best and only chance of reaching a decent agreement with so-called “Palestinians” and other neighbors is ALWAYS dependent upon making them all *know* and *believe* that Israel will never yield to force, terrorism, or “diplomatic pressures”
It seems to me that Barak’s comments implicitly say to every jihadist “terrorism works, at least in the long run, and getting leftists like Obama into office works to undermine security against jihad terrorism.”
I know Barak is on the left but I thought with his life experiences that at least he understood a bit more about the psychology, strategic balance, and diplomacy of the region and the world.
By framing the matter as one about ending “occupation” he is accepting the terms of debate and putting the PA, Hamas, and all of the bad players in the region in a stronger position. I’d say he is also probably contributing to weaker morale and resolve within Israel, if anyone heeds his words, because I consider it ESSENTIAL to Israeli security that they take the position that they will never yield to pressures of the international left + the Pali-jihad.
I’m not saying I don’t think Israel might well move back from *some* of the so-called West Bank in an appropriate treaty, but rather that sensible people do not *accept* the idea that the impasse is all about Israeli “occupation” rather than about the extreme and comprehensive efforts of so much of the Arab/Muslim world to keep Israel under siege. Nothing could be improved by merely ending “occupation” and Barak ought to know that so well.

yes, but I’d have hoped that the abject failures of that “peace process” (sic) would have taught Barak and others a few things.... not to mention all kinds of events of the past decade.....
Not to mention the fact that jumping into the public view right NOW with these kinds of remarks can only contribute to intransigence on the *other side*
why would the Palis ever make a deal if they think they can wear down Israel, harm Israel’s international standing and relationship with the USA etc.
Gosh, it’s almost as though Obama is an agent for the Islamo-jihad?? Why would Ehud Barak help to increase pressures on his own govt in the face of the current attempts to undermine and isolate Israel???
Political posturing by Ehud Barak. IIRC, he was the PM who embraced Yasser Arafat when Clinton was Prez.
Bibi must not falter. Hussein’s regime is but for a season, and the American people are not in favor of a weakened Israel.
wow, love that video, thanks!!
I highly recommend it to all who see this thread - beautiful, moving, and inspiring!!
Socialism, once it infects a persons mind is usually terminal and irreversable.
You are very welcome.
If Israel is determined to commit suicide no one can stop them. With Israel gone and whomever survives living in camps overseen by Iranian Hezbollah, we will see who prevails, Sunni or Shia, in what is left of the Middle East, since Israel, betrayed by politicians, will take much of the Middle East with her. Barak has committed treason before, but the Saudi-paid Egyptian wouldn't accept 96%; he wanted it all.
Ehud has never been a politician or diplomat, he is military. Klinton and Blair put him in office through dubious means. He lasted 2 yrs until GW was elected. Fortunately, Nosir, showed his true colors and turned down even what he asked for in his dreams.
Barack has done something to Barak.
Just what will come out soon. Bibi will let us know.

Barack Hussein bin Obama al-Kenyata is out after 2012. Time is running out. He has to taunt Israel to take the pressure off/change the subject of his Iran nuke/terrorist capitulation.
The Obammunist has always blamed the West for Islamofascism.

Let’s see how long the Israelies put up with Ehud Barak and Obama.
