Mindful that the new health care lawâs ability to slow rising medical costs will depend to a great extent on how it is put in effect, President Obama is assembling a high-level team to carry out key elements of the overhaul and is considering moving faster than the law requires to put them into action.
Sebelius has begun work on the first of what will be numerous regulations for Medicare, Medicaid and private health care providers.
The secretary can expand successful ideas nationwide without Congress's permission.
Mr. Obama, whose legacy will be shaped less by the law's passage than by how well it works, has begun marshaling what is "essentially the biggest transformation of government since World War II,"...
But Mr. Obama has urged advisers to consider moving sooner to set up an Independent Payment Advisory Board for controlling Medicare spending. Some administration officials, however, fear that creating the board much before 2014 could prematurely make it a target for attacks of the "death panel" sort, leaving it politically vulnerable before its powers to impose changes take effect.
The board was a top priority for Mr. Obama during the long legislative battle.

"The secretary can expand successful ideas nationwide without Congress's permission. " -- NO OVERSIGHT!
We better elect a Republican Congress in Nov 2010!
REPEAL.
Ping
They are in a panic mode because they know the new Congress is going to defund and repeal this pig.
oh its rolling alright....cutting services and care...
Obama is an idiot. The laws of supply and demand cannot be overruled by legislative fiat. Costs will skyrocket when health care is offered “free” to all who ask.
Quick start up the Death Panel. Think of the money it will save.
OR...the Supreme Court may say it’s unconstitutional....sooner than later...
This is WORSE than anyone can imagine — please read the entire article.
Further down it says that these panels can act unilaterally, Congress can act within 30 days to modify or reject the panel’s decisions, BUT Obama can veto Congress, then it will take 2/3 majority to override his veto.
Welcome to the death panels.
They just can’t wait to enslave us.
And more, towards the end of the article — the law has many pilot programs and one “promising” approach is to eliminate “fee for service” and pay doctors “to coordinate care for a fixed sum”.
You know what that means — if you have a chronic illness or need tests to diagnose what you have you won’t get it, since the incentive for doctors will be to NOT treat you.
Send us your sick, diseased, disabled and your disadvantaged, uneducated, undereducated, unemployed, underemployed, unemployable, undocumented, lazy, shiftless, addicts, welfare pimps, race pimps, and poor and we’ll give you a broke nation.
...Im modestly optimistic because the fiscal environment which we will be in, in three or four years, will be so desperate that the Congress and the administration will be looking for any mechanism or device that can hold down the growth of spending, said Robert Reischauer, an economist, health policy expert and former director of the Congressional Budget Office.
My...how very encouraging.
“Congress might have little choice in coming years but to accede to unpopular limits on payments for doctors, hospitals and other health care providers of the kind that lawmakers have ignored in the past. The board would give them political cover to do so.”
There you have it, the NY Times endorsing the establishment of the Death Panels.
Wish we could bring about the Grey Lady’s demise.....
Yes, only illegal aliens will get medical care... the rest of us should just stand aside quietly and die.
You know I was thinking yesterday. (while doing laundry)
What if the nanny staters start filing lawsuits:
1) HCR guarantees, healthcare services.
2) Limited HC unconstitutional due to inequality of services.
3) HC a RIGHT, (with all that implies)
4) Either it will have to be repealed, or vastly expanded (discally impossible)
5) Docs opt out of profession. Find less restrictive, higher paying profession.
Sounds like Star Wars. “How will the Emperor govern without the Senate?” “He will rule directly through the Imperial Governors.”
“Fee for service” means an end to private practice. Doctors will become employees of hospitals who will basically become a GSE.
There will be no ‘incentive’ to do any more than necessary to keep the patient comfortable. Doctors clamouring for this provision can treat according to protocol, guilt free.
Hussein truly wants to control our lives.....he hates middle America, and is intent to crush us under the weight of bureaucratic regulations.
